i have to replace the cv's on my praire out of pocket because the boots got shredded. but that is a different story. the problem i am having is that the upper cv joint(next to the front differential) wont come out on either side. im afraid to just yank on it or pry it, can anyone help me?

Just did one on my 400 today. Take the inner CV boot loose, wipe away some grease and use a screwdriver to pop a snap ring out that alows the CV joint to come out with the axle.

Most CV's ( automotive, and atv )and I'd assume the prarie'd be the same-simply have a circular ring that fits either in the diff or on the shaft, to pull the halfshaft( and CV) simply apply pressure with a pry then yank. The honda's don't have enough play in there to push then pull but glad it worked. ( The honda halfshaft sits very close to the diff with a steel lip that fits in a grease packing outside the oil seal. )

dont ever use a screwdriver to remove the cv you can damage the seal.
