I have a prairie 300 4x4. Last night I was giving things a tightness check. I noticed the the front drive shaft (from the motor to the diff) is loose on the diff end. If I grab that end I can move it maybe 1/8th of an inch, enough to make noise. My question, is that normal? If not, what do I need to fix? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Charlie,

I'm riding KVF300 4x4 also. When you say you can move 1/8", you are moving axially, not rotating, right? There are spring loaded shims, thickness ranging from 0.1 mm to 1.0 mm, in the front diff gear box. If your machine runs OK (no excessive gear backlash noise or popping out of gear, etc.), I would listent to Murphy.

Hayashi, If I grab the cv joint I can move it up and down. I cannot rotate it. The quad does run fine and there is no oil coming from the area.

Robbieg, your dealer said its normal. It worries me every time a dealer says something is normal. It could actually be normal or they are just to lazy to do the work and hope you will go away.

I guess for now I will measure the actual movement and see if it gets any worse.

Thanks for your help

Charlie
