650 maintenance
#1
I stopped by my dealer to get mobil 424. It was in a black quart bottle and had no mobil mrkings on it, but it had a kawasaki part # on it. I hope it is the right stuff and that the dealer is not pulling a fast one.
Anyway, he said acouple of things I wanted to ask the forum:
1. Don't bother checking the belt on the 650. It has an automatic adjuster and all you are checking is belt wear.
2. Don't bother having the valves adjusted early like the manual says. This engine won't need a valve gap check until 2000 miles or so.
3. Why did I take the plugs off to check the gap? There was nothing wrong with them.
He basically said clean the filter, change the oil and other fluids and just ride it.
Sound right to you guys?

I'm not aware of a self adjuster, but he may mean the driven pulley is spring loaded and may work similar to a self adjuster until which point you need to put in a smaller spacer or new belt. This is my guess. I don't know if the spring on our driven pulley qualifies as a self adjuster.
I checked the valves on my rear cylinder, they were in spec. The front ones were harder to get at so I'll wait on those.
