headlight house melted
#1
Has anyone else had this happen to them? The light went out the other day and i didnt think anything about it, so tonight i was going to fix it and noticed the damn thing had melted. The light was in the socket so there is no way the light could have slipped out of the hole an heated the metal ring up. What do you all think caused it to happen? The bike is a 2001 prairie 4x4.

The wires to the headlights on my 650 prairie were smashed between the front rack and the frame, the headlight fuse blew when I turned the lights on. My previous ATV was a 2000 400 prairie. The brake light switch on the foot brake got stuck and melted the brakelight housing. I couldn't get the switch to quit sticking so I unhooked it.

I went an talked to the dealer today and he said he would see what he can do. The parts guy didn't even know what would cause it. HONDAEATER thanks for the brake light info. My brothers bike did the same thing and we could never figure out what caused it. The dealer would not cover it. DON'T we just love them dealers.

The same thing happened to my 300 this past summer, What i ended up finding with mine was the hi/ low switch had gotten dirty and both the high and low beams became hot. With the added heat from both elements being hot had melted both housings, bulbs, and 1 of the harnesses that fed one of the headlight. This hole thing costed me 100 bucks. Also had the same thing happen to the rear break light too. I havent fixed that yet, adn i hate to see what thats gonna cost me. Let me know how it comes out.

yeah, I've seen the high/low beam thing happen first hand. My freind used to alwasy brag that his headlights on his Ford Taurus could have the high, and low beams on at the same time. He was like "oh my car is so cool you can have both the high and low beams on at the same time!!" Well it was all fine and dandly until he was driving one night and the crappy plastic headlights started melting then caught on fire. Needless to say he stopped bragging about his head lights. Does this story have anything to do with ATV's? No. but is it funny to me? YES!! :-D
