Tires for a prarie 400
#1
I have a prarie 400 2001. I was looking at getting some new rear tires because i blew out a rim. I am looking for a kit with the tire already mounted when i get it. I was looking for recommendations on what you guys have/like.. I ride mainly in mass where its rocky and has alot of roots. The tires take a beating. I ride in water and in mud some sand.
I was also reading somewhere about changing from steel to aluminum rim might not be a good idea? Anyone have any input on this?
Also if you guys could include a good place to buy this from that would be helpfull.. thanks!

Personally I would stick with Steel rims on an utility quad. I have been hearing real good thing about the Goodyear Mudrunners as being a excellent mud tire as well as being great on other terrains as well. I have some ITP Blackwaters on one of my other quads and have been very happy how they handle rocks, roots, mud, snow and sand.

My brother has a Prairie 400. Awesome quad.
He rolled it, though, and bent 2 front rims. Sux.
Yeah, I have steel rims on my Prairie. Are about $39 each at www.croffroad.com
One additional word of advice, don't stick with 10" rear rims (my brother's has 10" rear rims, not sure if yours does). Most SUV quads go with 12" rims, and you will find a better tire size selection.
I have some more aggressive tires that the mudrunner. I think I am going to get the Blackwater XT to put on my stock wheels for the drier season.
