Good Mojave pipe
#11
I don't recall saying that I felt a 22% gain. I said that is what they said they achieved at 6200rpm. Overall they gained 1.9 hp. Is it some new rule that every change made to an engine requires a jet change. NOOOOO but it is recommended but some quads or bikes don't need to be jetted and that is the case with the e-series for the mojave. Many of the other models this pipe is available for require a jet change but not on the mo. Of course your altitude and weather may change that. You don't have to let more fuel in because your pipe breathes more. Most stock systems are restrictive and aftermarket pipes let your bike breath better. Some higher flow systems will create more power, and even more power with jetting. I guess I'll grab my box of jets and needles and drive it over next door and hook it up to the dyno and spend my day doing something that somebody else already did and get absoluetly nothing done. Sound Good

Now mental I was merly making an observation about quads and how the power gain is easy due to the poor tunability of the stock set up, no shots were intended.
I do alot of street and drag systems and know first hand by dyno tuning on the efects of those systems.
Jetting does play a big part in tuning, and yes the stock quads are jetted very fat and if any thing the slip ons power comes from leaning out the system some.
Not trying to argue any thing with any body.
Just very un-impressed with the set up of these quads off the show room floor.
If I affended you I apologise
The mid range of most of these quads are horrible, go next store and look at the quad stock dyno test and see what I mean!
My amazement comes with how much top end hp is gained by a bolt on.
In street performance machines with more than 100 hp, $500 in mods don't get the top end hp gains as the quads are getting.
But hopefully with suzuki, yamaha and cannondale pushing the level up a good bit we will start seeing some state of the art quads like we see in the moto two stroke and four stroke bikes.

I have a UNI filter, K&N Jet Kit and Supertrapp IDS2 Quiet series, and I really like the power gains. I still am looking for more though. . . Are the quiet cores and race cores interchangable? (If so please tell me where I can get one and how much it will cost.)

e-mail me or remind me tomorrow, I have a parts list at my house from supertrapp were you can buy just the inner core wich you can choose quiet or race cores, I'll have to see if there is prices, but if not just a phone call away

Has anyone tried the FMF MegaMax II? I was considering it because it has simalar features as the WB E-Series only cheaper. The problem for me is Dennis Kirk has it listed as "out of stock expected soon" for about 2-1/2 months now.
MentalMojave, You have listed in your signature that you have k&n jets, but you say you didn't have to re-jet? Also in the one response you said your's works fine with the k&n kit. Do you mean the k&n jet kit? Am I missing something here?

The FMF are very loud.
I don't know what they sound like on the mo, but I know how they sound on many different quads and bikes, very loud.
I just installed one on my sons XR-80 and it is much louder on the 80 than the IDS2 and white brothers sound on the lakota and mojave.
I did note not only on the XR, but also the others I have installed, the pilot jet needed bumped up one size.
This is best to do prior to installing the pipe, on the bases of the plug read may show rich but the crome pipe turns blue from the jug to about six inches down the pipe wich if you bump up the pilot jet this won't happen.
Good luck!!

2000 Mojave- k&n says to use a 134 main with a good exhaust and I use a 130 main which is what they recommend for stock engines with just a filter. So technically I didn't alter my jetting for the pipe. I did speak to kn and the man said many people have called about the mo with white bros and he said they seem to run better with the 130 if you have 12 discs or less. Sorry for the confusion.
I have heard an fmf megamax on a friend of mines mojave and it sounds pretty good. I think my e-series is slightly louder and does have a more intimidating bark but the max sounds good too. I did notice that the rivets that hold it together have been breaking and I have never had a slight problem with mine but he is also very rough on the old mo and maybe thats why. FMF makes a decent product so I'm sure you will enjoy. Did you check with golden west cycle? They have a white bros pipe for the mojave for 170.00 and it is called the mega alloy. They might also have the fmf.Check www.wind mountain .comand www.ronnies.com
