How does the Mojave compare?

I'm looking to get a new sport quad for my 13 year old son, and my budget is 4k. he has been riding a Polaris Trailblazer for 2 years and rides well, but I want to get him a true sport quad.

Well the blaster and the mojave are pretty close as far as speed goes but the blaster has no reverse and the brakes never work and when I used to have mine the bearings let go every year. I haven't had any trouble with the mojave and every magazine says that its bulletproof engine. The 250ex is slower than the blaster and the mojave and it has an auto-clutch and it is shaft drive. I wouldn't want the shaft drive because the only way you can change the gearing is by changing tire size and that doesn't make that much of a difference. When I bought mine I wasn't sure what I wanted but I finally decided on the mojave and I couldn't be happier.

I own a Mojave, my brother used to have an '88 Blaster and I rented a 250ex for two hours at Oregon Dunes while I was on vacation. My choice would be the Mojave. The Mojave has the performance of the Blaster but has hydro disc brakes, liquid cooling and reverse.

My brothers old Blaster was a good quad. It was peppy and light weight, plus it has an incredable aftermarket following. There are nowhere near as many parts and accessories available for the Mojave. The downside to the Blaster are the POS brakes. The front drums will often pull to one side or the other and simply don't have the power or feel of discs. I remember the rear disc working okay. The lack of reverse also sucks if you do a lot of woods riding and exploring.

The 250ex is a confused quad. It has front discs, shaft drive, auto clutch, and less travel than a true sport quad. If somebody just wants a sit down, putt around and enjoy the scenery quad then the 250ex will do nicely. But, if a person wants to take it up a notch, start jumping, sliding, playing in the whoops, whatever then the 250ex will hold you back. The one I rode did pretty good power wise for an air cooled 250 but in the dunes I hated the slow shifting auto clutch and lack of travel.

The Mojave is a great quad. So is the 300 EX. They both have great features, some better than the others. The 300EX IS an electric start. You can buy an Electric start kit for the Mojave for about $450 with the battery. Get some new tires and possibly an exhaust all for the MSRP of the EX. I am very happy with my Mojave, and I am 5'11" 165lbs. It is not too small like my friends blaster. I wouldn't go for the 250EX because when you want more preformance there are not many parts you can get for it.
