New tires on Lakota
#1
I finally replaced the stock Goodyears on my 98 Lakota with 22x11x10 Maxxis SurTraks. I have to say I am very pleased! I went with the SurTraks because I wanted a better mud tire but still wanted the performance of a flat (vs rounded) profile tire.
My buddy with a 300 Prairie 4wd who usually has to pull me out of the mudholes did not this past weekend. I dropped off in the slop past my boots and just kept rocking it side-to-side and she slowly plowed through and came out. I did not hesitate jumping in the mud the rest of the day. A side benefit is that the tread cleans out nicely.
Now if I could just find a strong swingarm skidplate that fits worth a damn and offers good protection.

Did you notice any power loss with them how much do they weight.I put fasttrakkrs on mine and the where 43 pound for both of them. I'm thinking of going with a 11 tooth front sprocket. Because i climb hills alot and need more bottom end then top. Does your bike have any mods.

I am looking into the Razr's for my Lakota. I thought about the Sur Tracks too. Glad they worked out for you! Check on the PRM skid plates, they are what I am also looking to put on my Lakota.
As far as bottom end goes, have you done any mods. to your Lakota. If not, I recommend pipe, filter, and jet kit. This will improve your machine greatly.

Bigbad400,
I did not pay attention to how much they weigh (might check www.maxxis.com), but they are not heavy weights. From carrying them they felt slightly heavier than the Goodyears , but they were also worn down. I would not consider weight a factor for these tires. Remember they are not Vampires or Mudbugs!
As for power loss , no change. I can't powerslide as easy b/c they actually grip unlike the stocks. But you can't expect them to act the same with diff. tread. I still think they are the best of both worlds if you need to ride mud sometimes yet still want to play on the hard stuff.
The only power loss I have is from what I think is a slipping clutch. My chain was a little loose , but I don't think that was the cause of my bogging off the line. I did the usaual shift adjustment but I still hear noise and have what feels like slipping. Anybody done a clutch job?

Stebob,
let me know if you get that skid plate and how it fits.
So far no mods to my quad. I am planning on the K&N filter and maybe the jet kit. I realize in hotrodding anything that exhaust mods are usually the best for the money , but I don't know if I will go that far - but who knows. Does the jet kit cost you gas milage? Normally I wouldn't care , but the Lakota has such a small tank!

I will get the PRM skids, I just don't know when exactly at this point. Just ordered new riding boots and goggles for me and my boy, so there went my alotment for the time being. I think my next purchase is going to be Renthal bars.
As far as mileage goes, yeah, it increases it somewhat. I have no idea exactly how much, with the performance it gives, doesn't bother me too much. I highly recommend you get the filter, jet kit, and an exhaust. You will really like the diff.
