I have 90 miles and 12 hours on my 650. How long does it take you guys to hit top speed? I have about a quarter mile stretch of blacktop next to my house that I drag on and I can only hit 59-61 mph. I just had it to the dealer for service, so I would think the belt is ok.
My buddy was over yesterday with his '01 SP 500 HO. We did a speedo comparison. When went 25 mph next to each other, he was going 25, my speedo said 22. We raced them and the 650 walked away easily right from the get go (walked a wheelie first 10 ft. )
Anyways, am I not allowing enough room to hit higher speeds? Is it just not broken in yet? I can't figure it out. Has to be one of them two.
Thanks

I have almost 500 miles on mine with first service done and new choke cable. Mine will do 58 mph top speed on pavement with stock tires. It cannot do a wheelie in high or low range.

60 mph sounds pretty much ballpark to me

Mine hasn't hit 64 since warm weather. It only goes 55 or so and takes a while to get there. If I correct my speedometer reading by my tire dia, I can go 60 (just yesterday, as a matter of fact).

It had more power in warmer weather. My car does that too. I am going to get a K&N, since the stocker filter seems so restrictive.

92LT, I have seen a few posts from you indicating you cant wheelie in either high or LOW???
If this is the case then there is something wrong with your machine as I can wheelie pretty much at will in either range.
Get her fixed so you can see what your missing!!!!

My quad is not the wheelie monster either.

Are you guys using PJ11 foam filter oil (black spray can, red filter spray) on your stock filters?

I wonder if my filter isn't just too restrictive with that stuff, or maybe I put too much in. I clean it often.

My 650 has never had as much power after I first cleaned the filter. I looked at my plugs, and I'm not running too lean.

I just got it back from the dealer. Had the choke cable replaced under the extended warranty. Not much difference though. Maybe when it gets warmer it will run faster. I'm not complaining about the 650 though. I just can't see how everyone can do wheelies and I can't. It is plenty fast/powerful for me as is.

I have no trouble with wheelies. My quad has 29 hours and 200 miles on it. I can ride a wheelie for as long as I can balance it. Just Saturday (about 35 degrees) I pegged the throttle from a slow roll (3-4mph on flat pavement to clean the mud off of my tires. It wheelied for about 30ft without me pulling back, and I had to let off the throttle because I felt like I was about to flip. This was all in 2wd, high gear.

Seems like tire pressure will play a role in top speed. Mine is faster with the tires pumped up. (something to think about...)

Who is right? A lot of guys here say their Prairies won't wheelie, while I constanty hear guys say theirs will wheelie like crazy. Whats the deal?

Are they just full of crap or what? I also hear that some Prairies go 67-68 and these here barely go 60. Some idiot also claims his Grizzly will go 69mph and he had throttle left. I know thats bull. Then a magazine claims the fat Quest 650 is faster than everything. How???
