The Kawchem ATV utility 10W40 oil I bought at the dealer doesn't have the JASO MA rating on it, is it okay to use this stuff? I'm gonna use it for another hundred miles or so then change over to V-Twin

The Jaso MA is required with SH or SJ oils. You are right, KAwi Chem us SJ, SH ,SG, CF.

But, You don't need jaso MA with SF or SG, so kawichem passes on the "SG"

Mobil MX4T and Vtwin are "SG" alone, but also passes due do it's rating of SH/CF with Jaso MA.

I am using MX4T since it is cold here. I may put vtwin in if it gets changed in the summer.

Hey, you people, you know what happens if you put thicker oil in the front diff? I put 20w50 dino in there, and is really made the visco lock stiffer and the diff lock, lockier.

I hope that is a good idea and won't hurt nothin. 20w50 is listed

Anybody run any aftermarket tires on their prairie 650's other than mud tires? I live in the Desert Mountains, and there is not much of a chance that I will have to worry about mud I would like a tire that performs well in all conditions, hard pack, loose dirt, rocks and gravel. I want a tire that will not hurt the sporty feel of the stock Prairie, or it’s acceleration. Also, has anyone tried running 25x12.5x12 rear tires on there Prairie 650? Maybe it would feel out those rear fenders a little better

I have a 650 Prairie and have had some problems. They include: loose nuts on fenders, totally misaligned skid plate that required the dealer to drill one of the holes larger to accommodate the bolt, in the shop 3 times for 4WD not working, belt squeaking occasionally, is cold natured. I still like the machine and have no regrets in purchasing it. The dealer has made satisfactory repairs on the 4WD. I don't know what they did but it works fine now. I use Castrol GTX 10W40 in the engine and front diff. I use Kawasaki Final Rear Drive fluid in the rear diff. Not much difference in oil filter costs so I use one from the Kawasaki dealer, figure if I use what they recommend I should be in good shape. Did have copper colored fluid when I changed the front diff fluid. No real problems that I can't live with. If I had it to do again I would still buy a Kawasaki Prairie 650. Good luck with your survey.

485 miles, 86 hours... Just got her back from the dealer for regular maintence, fix the squeaky belt deflection and install my Jet Kit. I waited 6 days and was having withdraws Now that most of the snow has melted I really grab, man that thing has alot of power!

My dealer was able to set the jet kit to stock settings so when I get an exhaust I just have to tweak it. Maybe I can earn the $400 for the exhaust by blowing away grizes in drags. Why are all of these Grizz owners reading the Kawasaki forums? Hmm...

Bad news, not a second of trouble, until today. After I warmed it up,got on and took off, then the belt made a little squeal, high or low range. After I rode it for awhile it stopped. I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come. If it does get worse, think I will fix it myself, I've never really liked anybody else working on my stuff.Ordered a service manual today from the dealer for $37.50.

I have 350 miles on mine, and about 50 miles on my new tires. For the last 150 miles the belt has been squealing when I first throttle. I have some popping in the front end when wheelying (don't know how to spell that) but I think it's the front shocks extending all the way out. I had some problems when I first got it. It had a U-joint come apart in the swing arm and busted the swing arm. This happened within the first six hours.

Need help with the belt problem. (Still under warranty but dealer says he hasn't had any other problems out of any other belts) Any suggestions?

Until you can get the dealer to fix your squealing...press the throttle towards a wide open position and release it right away and you wont hear the squealing long. I wouldn't recommend holding the throttle at a low speed position where the squealing continued, you would be simply wearing the belt surface down. Area 51,
I am looking at some different tires for mine, and I want to stay away from pure mud type tires, so I was looking at Maxxis All-Tracks. They appear to be a good "All Purpose Type" tire. Mike Penland runs them on all but the gooiest and sloppiest tracks on his GNCC race quads ( He's also sponsored by Maxxis, so there's some influence in his choice ) and he's doing pretty well with them. They're available in stock sizes from Rocky Moutain for $50 to $53 per tire. Not too bad on the wallet for all four.

Any input on the All-Tracks ?????
