I'm at 10 hrs now and just changed all the fluids. My question is if it's necessary to have the dealer do a 10 hr service. All my cables are tight, no squeaky belt etc. For those of you who took yours to the delaer for the 10 hr. did they actually do anything besides change all the fluids? I'd hate to take it to the dealer and have their mechanic kick the tire and say it's all good and charge me $50.00. Is there anything else I should do besides change the fluids?

I asked my Dealer (whom I feel is friendly, smart and honest) and he said yeah, just change the fluids (and clean air filter, if it has been eating much dust) and you will be ok.

The only adjustment that could have an affect on engine life is the valve adjustment, which he said is not like older kawasaki's, in that it really does not need to be checked right away. He has checked many valves on 650's and said not a single valves needed it, unlike valves on older models, which have needed it.

I think he said do it at 1000mi or something.

You know the rules:

1. don't put anything but mobil 424 in the rear diff. The fluid that the dealers sells with a kawi part number is mobil 424.

2. don't put any engine oil that does not meet the kawi spec. (mobil mx4t, mobil vwtin and amsoil meet the spec). I don't really know why this overhead cam V2 is any different that my overhead cam V8 as far as oil is concerned, but it is and thats all I know. so, synthetic for my quad costs twice what synthetic for my truck does. STP makes a filter that works for the 650 and other kawi's you can get at autozone, part # SMO-017. Motorcyle people like this filter. There is also a fram on, but they some don't like it.

3. don't put any oil in the front diff that does not meet the same spec as the engine oil. I am thinking that the friction modifiers in auto oil might not be good for the locking clutch on the front diff.

I just picked up my 650 fom the dealer after 10 hr service.I'm glad I took it to them.I had 2 problems when I dropped it off;The reverse rev limiter and the indicator light had quick working. 2nd , the Quad would creep just a little if I came down from speed to an Idle.
I didn't think that the second was much more than a Belt adjustment, but it turns out that the moveable sheave on the clutch had a bushing out of place. They replaced the sheave under warranty and adjusted the shift linkage to correct all my problems.
Anyway, I don't know if the clutch thing will be common or just a fluke on mine .I think it's always better to have a second set of eyes to check your machine over though. They might see something that you might miss.
