Stock is not very impressive. You will find yourself continually trying to shift into a nonexsistant 6th gear. My 13 tooth counter shaft sprocket is on order so I'm hoping that it will improve things. The trouble with the Mojave is that it delivers good power but it is held back by the stock gearing. At full thottle it winds out. Box stock it comes low geared from the factory and I believe the reason is that the manufacturer was trying to give the Mojo some low end. What is really needed is a "pumper?" carb like what is found on the 250X/300EX. The CV carb on the Mojo compromises the low end snap.

I raced a blaster that had a pipe reeds and i still beat him.I was clocked by a car going up the road, and it was 61-65 mph.The 13 tooth sproket gave me about 3-5mph

I used to have 13/41 Gearing with 20" rear tires. I just switched to 12/41 Gearing today, and Holy $h!t!!! I was so used to it not being able to pull as hard as it should. It will now hit the rev limiter in 5th gear, but it is still about 5mph faster than stock. The accelertaion is so much better this way. I was trying to figure out a good gearing combo and created this little chart:
13 Tooth Front/ 41 Tooth Rear
3.1538
(+1 Counter shaft, -2 Teeth from Stock Rear)

13 Tooth Front/ 43 Tooth Rear
3.3076
(+1 Tooth on counter shaft from stock, Stock Rear)

12 Tooth Front/ 41 Tooth Rear
3.4166
(Stock Counter shaft, -2 Teeth from Stock Rear)

12 Tooth Front/ 43 Tooth Rear
3.5833
(Stock)

The numbers mean that for every one rotation of the rear sproket, the front rotates X amount of times. The top is the tallest gearing and the bottom is the shortest. With stock gearing I hit about 55mph, and with 13/41 I hit about 60-65mph (with a pipe, filter, jet kit, 20" rear Razrs) Hope this helps you find the right gearing.

Stock Mojaves, at least in 1988 (which is basically the same as the current model) went about 56 or so. I have a top speed shoot-out from an old 3&4 wheel action mag to prove it. They compared the the high performance 2-stroke quads at a drag race track. So I'd say it's pretty accurate. Just so you know the Tecate 4, which I own had the top 250cc speed at almost 76! Just 1 mile per hour behind the Banshee and 3 behind quadzilla. The mojave was thrown in as the fastest stock 4 stroke of the time for comparison's sake.

I threw in the note on the Tecate 4 'cuz it seems people forget it ever existed! I don't get it. It's one f'ing fast stock machine. One new Kawi dealer I went in didn't even know what it was. He said: "what? Ducati? We don't sell them." Oh brother.....
