Winch

Hey guys, I do a lot of riding by myself. So I rarely have anyone one around me to pull me out, when I get stuck. So what I was wondering about is what would work better, or just aswell.
I was thinking about getting a Come-Along. Which is basically the same thing that you would have on a boat trailer. It's the crank at the end that helps pull the boat up. So I was think about doing something like that, as a cheap alternative to a winch. But do you guys think it would be able to handle pilling me out of 20 inches of mud? Or should I just get a winch. Something I was thinking about though is, I could have to moveable between the front and the back. Versus have to get 2 winches?
Any thoughts?

Come-alongs are too slow, although I have never seen anyone use one on a quad. You will love the winch, especially with 50 feet of cable. Get the warn 2500 kit, not the 2000 kit. You will greatly like the relay and switch possibilities of the 2500. Look through my pics on my webpage to see where I mounted the switch. I think the wireless remote control switch it is coolest switch for a winch.

Just put a winch on the front, and take some of those screw-in-the-ground tree anchors with you in case there aren't any trees. Take a shovel. I have dug ruts down at times instead of breakin out the winch. Some guys actually have two winches. If you really wanted to get technical, you could get the removeable kit and move it from front to back, but how often do you really get that stuck?

I got the quad from Darrel's on route 104, webster NY (east of rochester). Those guys were real nice.
My switch is wired, and it is great (my elbow is sore from patting myslef on the back).
I was just pointing out earlier that I think the wireless remote kit would be the coolest. Ramsey makes one, http://www.ramsey.com/accessories_wireless.html

Had 4 wheelers for 10 yrs now, never had a winch.Have carried a 2 ton come-along [$40 at home depot] ,a military folding shovel and a 15ft chain. Had some strange situations but the above always has worked. Cost is extremely reasonable. We run into several trees down so I also carry a hatchet and a small saw. All of the above items have come in very handy at times. Since we are often 10 or more miles out we carry tire repair kits, air pumps, spark plugs and water. And last but not least toilet paper.

Best to be prepared.Often it could be along walk.
