carb still leaking,need help
#1
Well I can't seem to stop my mojave carb from leaking gas out of the dain tube. I replaced my float valve and that didn't help. I checked the float height with a caliper and it was 17mm like it says in my service manual. I didn't have a fuel level gauge so instead I just took a clear hose and used that as a drain hose and I held it alongside the carb body and opened my drain. My manual tells me .5-1mm above bottom edge of carb body. My fuel went to about that then it slowly climbed way past. I figured I would raise my float height which would lower the fuel level but when I bend the little "tang" on the float arm it seems to compress my float valve and the floats don't move properly. Don't know what else to do. Anybody???

I'm really surprised the float valve didn't take care of it. My fuel level is about 1/4 below the mating surface of the float bowl and carb. Gaff's is in the same spot too. You must have something (debris) on the seat. Look down in there real good. If you see anything, remove it, if it's the seat itself.....well, you have to replace the carb. It has to be something with the fuel level or around the float valve (the seat or debris not allowing the vavle to close it off completely). Sorry the valve didn't stop, I thought for sure it would.

I was real surprised about the float valve too but oh well. I've looked at the seat real good and it is clean as a whistle and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. I even tried a pressure tester on the carb and it held its pressure just fine which is really odd because if the float valve wasn't seating properly it would leak. I did notice on the kawasaki web page an exploded diagram of my carb and I noticed there is supposed to be an o-ring on the carb drain plug and I don't have one, I'm not sure of what might of happened to it. I removed my bowl and filled it with gas and it didn't leak but I wondering if when the pressure of the gas builds up it leaks and the float valve stays open and keeps filling the carb since the fuel level keeps dropping. Not sure if this would do it but I'll pick up and o-ring at work and give it a try, I've got nothing to lose. Thanks for the help stebob!
