Don't try to use the rpm of the motor to do your wheelies-find that "balance point" you both spoke of and just feather the throttle-practice is the only way to get better. I prefer to ride slowly in second or third (fourth-no lie-if I have room) and give a tug and some throttle and ride it out that way.
By the way I never have tipped all the way over backwards-always stops upright on the grap bar-doesn't hurt (just my pride!).

Reminds me of the time i was playing in my yard in the snow. I lost traction, with a little wiggle the front end went up and the grab bar hit. There i was, Mojo verticle, stopped, laughing my butt off. Of course i refused to let go and forced the quad back down. I can't ride a wheelie either. Don't you have to feather the rear brake as well to keep your balance ???? Help us out !!!! From experience i can say the mojo can't fly like my old sport, it's balance was perfect. I threw that thing around like my rm125 and kx 500. It felt better in the air than anything i have owned.
