For those of you who are using Syntetic Oil I have a Question
#1
My break in is now over and I run syntetic oil in all my vehicles and was planning on running it in my 650. When I asked my dealer he really recomended agianst it. He said it is to slick for the clutches in the engine and the front dif, he also said that it may cause vavle train noise and may have other problems with it. I didn't think there where any clutches inside the engine or front diff to be bothered with. The clutch is not even in the engine case.
So my question is that those of you that are using synthetic oil have you noticed any nocking or tapping from any thing and did you ask your dealers about using it and what did they say good, bad doesn't matter??? And does changing it to sythetic void warrenty it does meet all there specifications for oil recomendations. Thanks for any opinions or answers. This is my first quad and I reallly would hate to screw it up.

Hi,
I have been against synthetics in motorcycles and atv's sense what seems like the beginning of time.
But I have a open mind so I did some testing this past fall with some. This is what I found!
Mobile 1 and amsoil synthetics, for "motorcycles" had no ill affect to the engines. I did run into some clutch slippage on a well built bike with the mobile 1. But in the bikes and atv's the shifting was so smooth it was unbelievable. The main difference between the 2 oils was that the amsoil ran cooler engine temps than the mobile 1.
I would suggest either one for your 650, and try not to ask dealers to much about things, they usualy don't have much good to say about any product they don't carry

MonteSS, gaff is right about the dealer sometimes sounding like they have been drinking their motocycle oils.
Kawi was careful about listing the spec of the oil that will work well in the 650. People have even called kawi and they yes yes as long as it meets the spec in you manual.
The dealer may just have the automotive synthetics on the brain, do not meet the 650 oil spec.
The Amsoil product, mobil MX4T (10w40), and Mobil V-Twin(20w50 really for air cooled) all meet Kawi's specs. But they are kinda pricey. Good thing the 650 only take 2 qt.
I feel that these products are vastly superior to using kawi oil, honda oil or whatever dino based motorcycle oil. They not only have been extensively tested by the manufacturer, but widely used by the public. They have superior adhesion properties in case the quad sits for a long time. They pump better when cold, so you get lubed faster. They don't make coffee stains like dino oil does when it gets hot and breaks down.
Just don't use them when trying to clean water out of the engine, cuz they cost more.
