If your talkin about the KEBS: Inside the cover, inside the bump that is furthest out (by right big toe when braking), there is a U shaped plate (the ends are the fingers) with rubbing shoes on the end of it. The KEBS motor is linked to this plate, and pushes the pulley in at slow speeds to keep the belt tight (and thus make the engine slow you down). If you had shoes rubbed off, you could have had a real bad noise.

Don't ask me why yours is bad, I have only had to fix plastic I broke, set the toe at 0 cuz I have 28" tires and handling is worse, and adjust the shift linkage. Oh yeah, I have to clean so much mud off of it, I may start selling topsoil.

My K.E.B.S. system made a noise most of the time also and when returned to the dealer he found that it had melted, but wasnt sure why. Kawasaki fixed it for free even though I was out of warrantyy
