I talked to the local deale who has my bike. HE told me the valves where screwed up it didn't say exactly what it was. Would that cause it to smoke real bad. He said the piston and rings seemed to be fine. Do you guys think the pipe did it with no jet kit or filter? When i first installed it i didn't get the header piece on right and i could here it sucking air that's what i think did it. I'm going to try the white bros universal mount next anyone tried it. So i don't have to worry about the header pipe.

Did you ever adjust them? Not adjusting them can lead to the seats wearing prematurely. I would find out more details from him. When I 1st adjusted my valves, the intake was extremely tight.

Well, bud, I'd bet that'd be your prob. This is something that's easy to do. You will want to start doing this, it's not hard to do. Get your Clymer's out, if you don't have one, I highly recommend you get one.

bigbad400,
For sure having your valves out of adjustment could cause smoking. I have had my Lakota Sport for 8 months and I have checked and fine tuned them 3 times (2 times were really necessary). I think that if you have an Supertrapp exhaust you will need a re-jet, but first you need to have the valves adjusted correctly to get the jetting right. Check your owners manual for a maintence schedule. Good Luck

She's running good. I would like a little more on the top end, like to do what Gaff has done, but most of our riding is tight woods and trails. She's shines there.

Thats to bad bigbad400. Sounds like you went lean. Make sure you tell the shop to change the valve seals, no matter what he thinks about them.

Your engine must have run pretty hot, so yes burn't and/or cupped valves is a probable. When he,s done it should run much better.

I would also talk with cometic gasket company. They can make you a base and head gaskets that are thinner. This will up the compression some, and they cost the same as oem gaskets.

Mine has been running real good. I went out last week and focussed just on suspention. It made the handling much better.

I have a 2 stroke sense to my mid range, and it is quite fun.

The porting seemed to take some from the bottom end, but maybe not. The bottom feels a bit stronger than stock, but the mid and top were way better. I like it alot. I had it pinned in 4th the other day on a SX track. I went over a small hump and the mid-range power nearly flipped me. Awsome feeling

I find the most power to gain is from the head. A 3 angle valve job with good porting is a must.

I have been tuning to a race core IDS2 with no disc in it, so the bottom I have is real good. I fear that a clamp on filter is the only way to go from here. I think it will be alright but I'm going to wait a while to change any thing, as every change I have to re-learn my shift points and how it reacts. I also need to get the cam.

So at this moment I'll leave every thing were it is and hopefully be able to race come the 18th, then I can tell you how it does against the other quads.

I have been practicing with the 125 and 250 begginner bikes. I keep rite up with them and can even pass half of them. Thier was no way I could do this before. Now mine you a good rider on a 2 stroke 80 could wax me, but thats ok.

I also practice with a pretty good rider on a LT 250R and hung rite with him. He has to much snap to keep up with in the straights, but he doesn't leave me. The same guy has a stock 400EX and he told me it handled better but doesn't have the snap of the 250R. Wich leads me to believe I could keep up with the EX much easier.

All in all I am very happy with the lakota. I have about 3 or 4 ideas on how to get it faster, but money and timing isn't rite at the time. Not to mention racing season is here. And after missing the first one due to wrenching my shoulder in a accident, I need to stay foccussed and worry about upgrades when the timing is more rite.

Stebob I've been meaning to call you, but just so busy. I came back to work today so I'll probably call tonight.

Well just as i suspected I talked to the dealer who has my bike and they said that the warranty isn't going to cover it. They said the warranty company wouldn't even talk about it. The dealer tryed to tell me that it takes 2 hr's to tear the top end down and it will only be a 100.00.I was like there is no way it takes that long.I said what do they do look at it for and hour and see where to begen.
Well come monday morning my dad's going to call the warranty company and let them no what he thinks of them and there so called warranty.
If you buy a new atv or motorcyle don't let them sucker you in to the pinnacle warranty. Trust it's not worth the extra $500. Because they wont cover nothing.

Sorry to hear that. Keep in mind they go by book labor, not what it'll actually take them to do. Actually $100 for 2 hours, ain't bad. Shops around here get $65/hr+. It pays to get a Clymer's and start doing it yourself. You may be scared at 1st, but the manual will walk you through it and the forum is always here. There are some really knowledgable people on here. Good luck!
