when i accelerate from a dead stop and then immediatly let off the throttle
my tranny makes a clunking noise(maybe not the tranny but the driveline or rear end???)
almost as if the rear end catches up with it(i dont know how else to describe it)
this is in 2 wheel drive
anybody else have this problem?it doesnt sound normal...

If it grinds like a ratchet, you shift linkage needs adjusting. It is easy.

If it is a not so loud single click, it is just the gear slack. No worry.

its more of a clunk than a click(if that makes any sense)
but it happens only once
its not a grinding sound

If you put it in gear, and roll it back and forth in your garage (ultra quiet) you should be able to hear that gear slack, and tell that it is coming from just forward of the shaft drive boot (tranny).

nyroc-- Do you work on Kaw for a living? You appear to be very knowledgeable in the realm of the P-650! My hat(helmet) is off to you. Your posts are extremely informative! Good job!

Cannitor,
Mine makes the exact same sound. It used to only be noticable in low range but now has gotten worse and even does it in high range. Under heavy loads in low (climbing steep hills, thick mud with my 27” mudrunners) it also started to cluck intermittently which jerks the whole bike. It also does the ratcheting noise descending long steep hills. The more miles I put on it the worse things seem to be getting. It only has 250 miles on it now.

By all means, adjust your shift rod.

Nyroc,

My hat is also off to you as well, I have been monitoring this forum for a while, I purchased a 650 in Feb. I havent had much opportunity to put many miles on it but summer is here!!!! Going to spend the next 4 days camping and enjoying it. I would like to commend you because I have found the information you have posted to be quite informative. THANKS!!! I feel like im better prepared in case something happens. Great website and pictures to.
