Nyroc, glad to hear you are on the mend. Answering your question as to what I do, I am a welder, but I do fabricating and light machining as well. If you are going to try to straighten your aluminum rim be very careful. Aluminum work hardens a bit, which means the more you pound it, the harder it gets, therefore, it will crack. Before you try to straighten it, start up an oxy-acetylene torch with just the acetylene on. Wave it over your rim. It will turn your rim black. Heat up your rim with a tiger torch and the black(carbon)will begin to disappear. When all the black is gone, start beating it with a soft face hammer. This is probably the safest home repair method you can try. I don't know how the pros do it, but I assume it can't be cheap. Either way you look at it, if it don't work, the rim was toast anyway.

You guys are scaring me! Coming up on 400 miles and wondering when it's my turn. I've already had to bail off twice and hold it while walking it over the obstacle. I ride a lot of pipeline right of ways and some are steep as heck with erosion cuts that run across them at a downhill angle. Scarryyy!

Gentlemen

BUY INSURANCE! I rolled my 4 wheeler 6 times end over end and it was not even recognizable when I slid down the hill to look at it (I jumped off). The insurance company totaled it and I now have a new machine. Trust me, the insurance is worth the $$$$$$$.

Hey Nyroc- I can get the c-clip out, I was wondering if the shim is the one under the spring or the ones between the sheaves? If its the one between the sheaves how do you get the sheaves apart?

After the spring is off, take the 4 buttons out of the bore (round pegs). Pry them up with screwdriver, then the sheaves come apart. The shims are between the sheaves

This is good,
Riding on edge of sand creek when, you guessed it, the sand caves,& off in the water we go. Had wife on back. Seemed animated at the time. We just went off in the water &, ever so gently, rolled off. I told my wife to swim to the edge & I would get quad. It seemed like forever to get quad to edge of water. It was deep. When I got out I assessed the dammage. NOT GOOD! Carbs were full of water, & motor was too! Was pulled back to truck by another quad that came along, & took quad home. Got out my shop-vac & sucked water out of carbs. Serviced air filter & drained oil which was like milk. Poured new oil thru engine while drain plug was out. Then changed oil. Turned on key, hit start... CLICK! Had power, but would not turn over. Tried to pull cord, locked up. I told my friend who was over that I was going to hit start a few times to see if it would break loose. IT DID! THANK GOD! I changed oil five more times replacing the filter on last one. Installed new plugs, & she runs like new! KAW...

Coolin, Northarkie says to file off the hard belt surface if you have been squawking. Might help the takeoff on the drags.
