My 650 manual start pull will not recoil properly. I used the machine in WV in April and did some creek riding. The rope feels wet. I've sprayed luricant into the hole where the rope goes but it's still sluggish and won't wind all the way up. Is there a drain or another way without having to remove the housing to correct the problem?

the mechanic at the dealer told me you basicaly get one use out of it, but i fixed mine where it will work. you just have to make sure the nut that holds the recoil together isnt too tight.

I 've been thinkin about making a plate to cover the recoil area, and carry the recoil in my box. I am getting tire of it. I don't think my starter will fail, and I always turn stuff off so the bat won't go dead. Do I really need it?

I took it apart and sprayed slick50 spray in it, which helped for a while, but it is full of mud again. This is the one component that polaris makes better on their quads (they are better sealed).

Hey fella's I pulled the pull start off and shimmed it! I placed a thin small washer in between the spoll which holds the rope and the dog which engauges the manual pull rope. Seems the clearence is real tight and by shimming it a bit it works great. I've had it full of all kinds of crud-O-la and she still works like a charm. Just something for yall to think about.

I had the same problem and found the cover full of mud and water. I could not get it to work consistant. I had to put another turn on the rope. This tightened the spring more so it pulls a little hard. It had been about 4 months and it still works great.
