in the 4 what it's worth dept...
what I'm planning to do is this..I have a twin air filter, (personal choice, I run K&N on my street bike, but for off road, I like a dual foam filter, I think it offers more protection)
Jet Kit K&N, but I may not use it, I won't know untill I tear into the carbs & look at the stock needles..I may just use the stock needles, a shim or 2, & bigger stock jets, since that worked well on my street bikes,
airbox mods, I was going to put a 2 1/4 " radiator hose on the box,or look at the snorkle from diamond g, when pics are posted, and drill 7/16 holes in the airbox lid per Mike Penland's specs..
I got a set of driven, & drive springs from Mike, that I'm going to put in.. along with the other stuff, maybe the mod on the side panels like the grizzly may sneak in..but these will come a little later. I don't have time right now to do it.
The important mods is tires..
(I'm still thinking about that one..)
Mike is working on a big gun (I think) exhaust pipe, that flows better than stock, but is just about as quiet..
he has cams..as well
now since Scott Kilby waits about 5 minutes or longer, for the 2nd place rider to show up in the modified class, I'm sure a lot can be done to the 650 for performance..(bear in mind that Mike, Scott, & the rest of the Penland Brothers race team, are some awesome riders, and performance is 95% rider and 5% bike)
I'd start by calling Mike & asking him what is available. & what you can do to get the level of performance that you want.
one of the best catalogs I've seen is Rocky Mountain ATV, as far as items & prices.
my racks are Pvc tubes, since no one makes what I need..
of course the ideas here are my own, & may not fit other's needs, your milage may vary, buyer responsible for all sales taxes.
