Hey everyone,
I put my 650 in low to ride and when I let off the gas it made the ratcheting noise. I'm aware that it is the shift rod, but just need to know how to adjust it and whether to loosen it or tighten it. I'm thinking tighten. Thats alot for your help in advance.

Packardbell,
I decided to play with it and see what happens. its really easy to see. loosen the nuts on the shifting rod at the base of the shifter and the other one is behind the boot for the air going into the belt drive. once the are loose tighten up the rod about a 1/4 to a 1/2 turn and you should be good to go after tightening the nuts back up. hope it works out for ya.

thanks alot but i havent tried all the way yet. i went out to look at it and i see that at the end of the shift rod there is a nut and then the shift rod is attached to this gold color piece. i looked right behind the boot thing and i couldnt find another nut but i dont think i understood you right. one of the nuts i found was just to the left and back by the boot. it was attached to the shifting rod. then there is another nut attached to the gold color piece. are those the nuts you were talking about. if not please tell me the nut(s) that i need to loosen to asjust the rod. please respond because i dont want to have to take it to the dealer. thanks alot

the nuts at are opposite end. the one was by that boot and is reached from infront of the rear fender below the seat on the right hand side of the quad. the second is at the bottom of the shifter for changing from N-R-H-L. hopefully that should cover if not let me know.

I pulled the cover off to get at mine. The end attached to the shifter is difficult to get at if you don't yank the top cover off.

like sgtrock said,
you have to take off and plastic over the air filter atleast. once you see it you might be able to reach it from underneath it instead of on top. let me know how it goes
