air filter

Solvents such as what -- gas?!?!? Never clean your foam filter with solvents such as gas. Gasoline will attack the foam rubber and cause it to degrade and become brittle and fall apart. Also, gasoline (or equivalent) will break down the cement holding the foam filter parts together. I use PJ1 foam filter cleaner and PJ1 foam filter oil (not engine oil!!) to service all foam filters. These come in spray cans and are around $5-$8/can. You can usually find them at your local quad dealership or you can order them from mail order companies like Dinnis Kirk, Magic Racing, James Lucky ATV, etc.... Remember, when washing a filter, don't wring out the filter out like it's a dishrag. A foam filter will tear if you aren't careful. Just sling the filter to rid it of excess water and let it sit overnight to completely dry before oiling.
