lakota help
#1
I just bought a used 1999 lakota and I need some help with the jetting. I bought it from a family member who had it piped and jetted by a local shop and it ran great but it was loud so he had the shop but it back to stock. Now I have put the pipe back on it but the I can't figure out the jets it had at jet kit with the pipe but the jet looks different from the one that is was in when I got it. The jet kit has a DJ-148 that is around a 1/2"lg and the od is hexed. The jet that is in the bike now is a mk-140 that is about a 1/4"lg and round on the od. I don't know wich type of main jet a lakota carb is supposed to take any help would be appreciated. The pipe is a supertrap with 12 disc.

The 140 is the stock jet that came with the quad. You want a DJ-134 in there now. Also the needle c-clip must be on the 3rd groove and the air/fuel mixture screw should be 2 1/2 turns out.
You will find shops and poeple say dynojet says put a 138 in there with your set up, put the 134 in and save some time.
Clean the air filter and adjust the valves and enjoy.

If the jet is 1/4" long vice 1/2" long there should be an adapter in the dynojet kit. I made the same mistake on my buddies 400ex. The little jet is round and the old one is hex right? Look for an adapter in the kit that is hex and screw the round one into it.

No niether the kiehin nor dynojet jets for the lakota are hex. The hex type jets are for different applications. I know what halfpint is talking about but it does not apply to this application.
The kiehin jet the number will be on the side of the jet with what looks like a star by it. The dynojet jets are tipicly a lighter color gold with the number on the top part of the jet.
The keihin and dynojet jets are in no way using the same numbering index. So take the 140 you found and tuck it away some where.
If you don't have the DJ-134 dynojet sells individual jets for $2.50 a piece. But if the person who sold you the quad did not provide you with the 5 or so jets that come with the kit ask them first if they have them. This will save time.

Hay a 136? To the best of my knowledge thier is no 136, but thats fine. Just let me know if it was a 136, I have been in a jam before needing a 136 and couldn't get one. Although I have been known to get creative.
Just check your plug from now and then and it will tell the story on how the motor is running. Try Adjusting the valves from time to time. I usually can here the ticking and because it drives me crazy I just adjust them.
Keep the air filter clean and the oil changed and they never give you a problem. Graet reliable machine !

Excellent, thanks.
Beyond popular opinion if you call and tell them that you have a lakota they will say no, there is no such thing. But if I called and said it was a raptor they would say oh yes.
Same thing happens when I order larger jets, say for a big bore braek in. They nearly want to argue with you about how you don't need them. It's not dynojet, it's just employees who are reading parts by part number thats all.
Thanks again.
