I use MX4T, it is an excellent oil and you can't go wrong with it. I beleive NYROC uses it also. Most on the forum use V-TWIN but in my opinion MX4T is the best. All the guys I know run this stuff in their super bikes that redline at 14,000 RPM, a Harley doesn't even come close to that. Also as mentioned earlier V-TWIN is formulted for liquid cooler engines, it just makes more sense to me to use MX4T.

I use Mobil 1 V Twin in mine in the hot months. I think you got turned around, thumpin, the MX4T is for liquid cooled and V-Twin is for "air cooled" Most of that is marketing, if it meets the specs set forth by Kawa, I see no problem using either. I many switch to MX4T in the winter.

BTW, I use Yamalube 20W-40 in my wife's Kodiak for the summer, Does anyone know why that stuff is so slick on your hands compared with other oils? Is it the silicone additives they brag about on the bottle?

is mobil MX4T ok to run all year round? even in the summer months and in hot temperatures. does it still offer protection then. BRAM, the dealer gave me ford-new holland tractor fluid (no problems with it)

Just to help clear things up.Multi weight oils do not get thicker as they heat up.As oil heats up it gets thinner.A 20-50 oil is a 20 wt oil cold,at 212 deg it is as thin as a 50 wt oil would be at that temp.A hot 50 wt oil is much thinner than a cold 20 wt.

The amount of spread between oil viscosity's is important.A 10-50 oil will break down faster than a 10-30.Break down means that the oil basically turns into a 10 wt oil all the time.

In an engine that is constantly ran and never shut off a straight weight(sae 30,or 40) oil is a better choice since it can be ran longer before it breaks down(thins out)and thicker oil is generally a better lube......to a point anyway.

On an engine that is shut down and restarted alot thin oil is better,It takes a few seconds for the oil to start pumping when an engine is started...thick oils compound this problem.Using thick oil when its very cold could cause engine damage to occure before the oil gets where it needs to go.

Its better to have thin oil as a lube than no oil at all.

Motorcycles/atv engines have very small oil passages.I feel anything thicker than 10w(10w30,10w-40)is too thick.20-50 should be ok as long as it's over 100 degrees when the engine is started.

I just changed oil last night. For some reason I couldn't find mobil v-twin anywhere. The mobil distributor said he could order it a 7 dollars a quart.

I settled with Valvoline Racing 20w 50. It is formulated for higher rpm's and has an anti-foaming additive for high temperatures. I use Valvoline Max Life in my Landcruiser and trust it.

I changed spark plugs last night also. When taking off the belt cover air boot I noticed dust inside of the boot. Is that normal?

Yes that is normal. That is why every one is recomending on taking the cover off and blowing the dust of every now and then.
