IMO, those tires are dangerous on the P-650. They try to roll off the beads. The sidewalls are the thickness of the front page of my Sunday Paper! I almost got hurt twice in the 150 miles I put on those f--king things! Both times, they broke loose at the wrong time, and I almost slammed a tree!

Set the PS springs to the lightest setting and work up from there. They are stiff!

DieselPro...I was concerned about the handling characteristics with 589MTs up front. I dont know if that concern would be justified now that I have a set of 589s. I didnt expect such a smooth ride from such an aggressive tire. I really like the 489XTs though. I have been a fan of the 489s since seeing how well they've held up on my Scrambler. If I could do it all over again I would have gone with Sur-Traks all around first. My plan is to have a set of lighter tires for summer time trail riding and a set for mud runs or snow. The 6 ply tires all around have robbed some of the performance but it isnt unbearable just irritating sometimes when I want to play and drag race a buddy.

Anyhow I guess to get to the answer to your question. The 489s definately handle much much better than stock. I do not get nearly the amount of push with a much stiffer side wall. I have been into some pretty deep and sticky mud and they have also performed extremely well there also. They do cake up a bit at slower speeds though. Hope that helps.
