I was a long time wannabe, I had been drooling over quads and resisting my quad owning friends taunts to break down and buy one UNTIL....
I saw the article on the prairie 650 in popular mechanics, it has so many industry firsts, Rear sealed brakes, locking front differential, low center of gravity gas tank, high air intake, specially redesigned cvt transmission, all the toys in the digital display, and most of all a ground poundin v-twin engine specifically designed for a heavy utility quad (not a sport engine/660 or an old hand-me-down pushrod design/700 poo lar is)
I just couldnt wait (although I had to wait another 6 months) I went to the nearest dealer and began badgering him on when the first one would be in the door. I tracked its progress on the internet, and still have every article that magazines have done.

Hey Megadav, you seem to have gone through the same experience I did before I bought my 650.
Initially my interest was spiked by the fact that it had a perfectly balanced 90 degree V-Twin from the Ninja boys.
As I researched all the EXTREAMLY innovative things Kawi had come up with I was sold without even having seen one yet.
I bought one of the first ones in my province over a year ago and it still amazes every time I drive it.
As a total package the other manufactures will be a long time catching up, and that includes the new honda.

hey everybody just got hooked up on this web site and i also just bought my 650 2002 prarie yesterday. under 35mph should i keep it in low or is it ok to always ride in high? i want to break it in right; i know this is in one day but i've got 3 hours on it with speed ranges of 5mph - 60mph,i have pulled wheelies, climbed over some real bumpy terrain. is this ok? i was told by the dealer to very the breaking in period. i kneed to know from my peers who also own the best utility atv out there!!!TextText

i broke mine in about half and half. hey! i got a little carried away with all that power. i have no problems because of it...
there`s 10,000 ways to break them in, in my opinion mixing it up (ride a little hard here and there) is`nt going to hurt it....

thanks scootdog i needed that! after i read some stuff here i convinced my self that i was breaking it. what about the high and low gears should i keep it in low for slow speeds? lets say i'm trail riding (love it!!!) lets sya i'm flying down through the woods and i gotta slow down for a couple of minutes to manuver around and go over or through things, then ther is another sraight and i get on and use the p650 raw-dog power, what do i do i don't wanna be shifting from low to high all the time, i thought low was for laboring work and 4x4. just wanna not ruin it!!! thanks !!!
