Here is a something I noticed about driven pulley shims for P650 owners. It's kinda hard to explain....

I went to buykawasaki.com and compared microfiche between the 2002A, 2002B, and 2003 Prairie 650's driven pulleys. I noticed that on two of the models, only 3 shims are listed. On the 3rd one, it lists four different shim sizes. So if you are ordering shims, be sure to note that there are 4 available shims, not just 3 as some microfiches show.

They added the 4th during the middle of the year and your dealer has the part number for the 2002 models...However I have not seen the film on the 2003 but I bet it is the same as the 2002 part number,

Have you seen the film on the 2003? if so email the link or a copy of the carb / air box parts and the clutch parts / belts please.

The 4th spacer size is .8. You have to look in the 2002 650 B1 microfiche to see it.

The 2002A1, 2002B1, and 2003 Prairie 650 microfiches are all up at www.buykawasaki.com

Kawasaki must be aware that there is some sort of belt deflection problem, because it seems that new machines are coming with different deflections set from the factory.

My dealer told me the shims range from .15 to 1.2 mm. I ordered a .5 today. I took out my last shim which was .6 and now it has a slight squawk when it's idling in gear so I hope a .5 will fix that. I also ordered the black EPI spring today so I can't wait to see how it works.

Shims weren't cheap. I think I payed around $4.29 each. More/less, depending on dealer I'm sure.

mudseeker-- If your 650 is squealing at idle, in gear, you need a THICKER shim(s) than what is currently in place, the belt is slightly too tight. I don't think your info is right on shim range. My understanding is that there are 4 sizes to choose from: .6mm,.8mm(new for '03),1.0mm,1.4mm.
BTW-- The "black spring" KICKS A$$!!!!!
