front-end alignment ??
#1
Just want some advise and opinions on front end alignment . I have a 1997 300 Bayou 4x4 . Seems to want to pull a little on the roads and the bars are not completely centred when the machine is going straight . Someone said it may pull a bit because of the front differential , not sure about that . It is also wearing one front tire faster (right side) than the other , alignment , differential or normal ? I bought the machine used in June and was like this from the beginning , been to busy to look in to it til now . Would like opinions on proper way to check and adjust , toe in or toe out , proper amount etc. . Thanks!

Alignment is pretty straight forward. Measure the distance from centerline to centerline in the front of the tire and then measure centerline to centerline in the rear of the tire. If the front distance is greater, you have toe out, if smaller, you have toe in. I would ensure that handlebars are straight, the get the tires straight by adjusting the toe. If you have anything straight and long, you can cinch one down to each tire and measure it that way if you don't have a distinct centerline on your tires. Nyroc has a great illustration on his site.

Was talking to the head mechanic at the local Honda dealer , he said it should be toed out an inch , sounded like a lot but he showed me on the new Honda's that it was an inch or more . He said it is the same principle as snowmobiles to stop the darting affect when at higher speeds . I know the manual on my sled says 1/8 to 1/4 toe out and it works fine when I did that when I got it . He said it would help with cornering as well . When I get it done I will let you know if it works!
