I mounted my Magellan 315 to the airbox lid of my P-650. I used a Ram mount. Nice clean install, was able to hide the hard wiring under the frt lip of the seat. If there is any interest, I can take digi-pix, and email them. I think the rear 1/3 of the airbox cover is a great mounting area, as the unit's antenna is clear to "look" at the sky for sats.

 

I installed my Garmin eTrex with something more redneck in nature. I used velcro. Cost about $3 and hasn't failed me yet.

 

I ordered the handle bar mount from Garmin then found out there is no place to mount it to the bars. I saw a picture of a GPS mounted to the front rack. It looked good. I'm going to try that

 

I used a marine mount for the Gar3+, and it sits right over my pod, it's bolted on so it's not falling off.

 

I bought a Magellan Sport Trak last Friday and it saved my rear twice over the weekend on some remote trails. So now am looking to mount the GPS on my Prairie too, so I will be watching this thread.


Hey, have you guys tried Geocaching with your GPS's yet? I found my first 3 last weekend and it was a lot of fun. http://www.geocaching.comI want to find some in remote areas with my Prairie.

 

I have the Garmin Bike Handle Mount for my GPS V. My Brother made a curved bar that looks really good. Bar bolts on the handlebars where the mirroes could go. Check out pictures on Web site. I have used the Garmin Bike Mount for years and never had a problem.

 

YoeSeaOh, I have the Garmin Etrex Legend with the handle bar mount. I was able to mount it on the handle bars and it works great. The kicker is I had to cut a small piece out of the plastic on the left hand side. I used a Dremel tool to cut the plastic so it looks almost factory. If you would like to see some pics, let me know and I will email a couple to you.

Its a great location to mount the GPS to get a quick glance, seeing that the screen is so small. I've been in ingrown trails with it mounted and for the most part it is sheltered from branches. I was concerned about damage. I would recommend getting a power cable and case. I modified an old Nokia 3360 phone case to fit the Legend while mounted. The plastic cover protects the screen from any scratches from branches and mud.

The Legend is awesome. I've been able to hack the Halifax area map from Mapsource and add custom trails from my own trips and DNR(Dept. Natural Resources) maps and then upload them to the GPS. Its got 8mb ram for custom maps which is more than enough for what I need. We were out this weekend and the GPS resolved a couple of disputes on the best trail to go. It beats digging the map book out of the back every time. I've also added all the local lakes and ponds to the map. It really great having a realtime moving map when you're in the woods. Its also nice to download the track at the end of the day and overlay it on a map to actually see where you were.

Dextreme, I tried geocaching for the first time this week and had a great time with my wife and daughter. The weather was awesome on Sunday and we went for a little hike. It was something neat to do with the family on a nice afternoon. It's kinda like hiking with a purpose.

 

Boghog I have the same GPS. I understand the mounting spot you're talking about. I was going to do the same thing but was afraid of cutting the plastic. I just finished mounting it to front rack just in front of the radiator access. I think it will work here. If not I'm going to mount on the bar.

 

I used the ram mount and mounted it dead center at the rear of the front rack had to drill one small hole in the black plastic rack cover for the u-bolt the ram gets it high enough to see it clearly without having to look down or to the side and have had no problem with it being hit by branches or anything
