The "black spring" is made to replace the stock spring on the "driven" or rear pully. This is what most sixfitty owners are replacing. The "red spring", as I understand it, is for the "drive" or front pully. The only guys who are using it are the ones who competitively "pull".

1Bearman from Diamond G Racing recomended to get the black drive spring from Penland Racing (706) 746-2812. As far as I know they don't have a web sight, but if you call them they will ship it out the same day. I recieved mine in three days. Penlands spring is $5 more than EPI's but 1Bearman said it was a better spring and well worth the extra money. I could'nt tell you the difference between them but I really noticed a difference in my 650 wen I put it in. Also installing is a breeze if you go step by step in Nyrocs sight (thanks nyroc) make the compression tool yourself and make sure you have a good snapring pliers. good luck

Kisssofdeath:Yes he mentioned it. But he said it was more for pulling competition or drag racing. Also makes your throttle response really quick which could get you in trouble in certain situations. I don't know anyone who installed one for proof, but if I could ride one with it in it might change my mind and get one. My next purchase will be the Progressive front springs I need them more then I'll research the red spring.

Cammoman and Kbar, if you use your 650 for rock crawling or tight technical riding, don't bother with the red spring. I had mine in for 1 day and put the stock drive spring back in. It engages way to hard with the red spring. In off camber or rock crawling, you could get in serious poo with the red. That's why I put the stock drive spring back in. The power transfer with the stock spring is ssooooooo smooth. Perfect for serious riding. If I was going to a mud bog or a pull, I would put the red back in in a heartbeat, but I haven't entered a pulling contest-----------YET!!!!!!!!

The progressive springs are actually shorter than stock and you wouldn't want to change them for mor hieght any way unless you put new struts inbecause the would top out easyier and be hard on them. In trucks when we would lift them 3 inches or so you need to get new shock or put extensions on the ones you already have.

The Progressive springs have to be shorter due to the fact the the Progressive preload adjusters are about 1 1/2 inches tall. I believe if you consult with Progressive Suspension or High Lifter, they will tell you that you gain about an inch in ride height over the stock springs. I gained an inch when I installed mine, and that was with the preload set all the way to the bottom. (Softest setting). The stock springs are so soft that when the machine is at rest, the strut is aready more than halfway through it's travel. The recommended set-up is to have 1/3 of the travel at the top when the machine is at rest.
