650 Belt problem found?
A lot of people can't access parts of my site if they are using old versions of netscape (4.x).
I have decided not to do anything about it. Too much work. Upgrade to IE.
Someone around here is using the 360 belt. They have not reported on it yet. I think the belt will ride higher at takeoff and wear deeper grooves. No proof, just a theory. I do believe this could be adjusted by changing something in the primary, but I will just use the 650 belt.
I think we can expect a lot better wear if the deflection is set at .87 rather than 1.08.

650 Belt problem found?
Here's my gripe guy's My clutch has NO shim's at all with a new belt so there will be no adjustment, when it start's chirping again at takeoff it's another belt, I was under the impression that there are three diff shim sizes, if the belt's were wider you could put the thickest shim, then progressivly shim down making the belt tighter as it wear's I can't do that because there are no shim's to take out and replace, see my point? I don'y know, maybe I'm going overboard here the stock belt lasted about 1900 miles, maybe i shouldn't complain, but when my friend's Grizz's have 4000-5000 miles on them and they have never had their clutch cover off it get's me a little bit ....But then again they have to deal with vapor locking and carb problem's in warm weather.....Oh well, maybe they cancel each other out, Any idea why the 360 belt is 50 buck's more than the 650, look's like it should be the other way around, I am wondering if the 360 belt is a better quality belt and how much wider is it?

650 Belt problem found?
The post about the 360 belt by mudkicker said that:
1. The belt was identical material
2. The belt was identical length.
3. He said the belt sat higher in the driven and as a result had stronger takeoff.
I do not fully believe a new 360 belt willl have a stronger takeoff than a new 650 belt. Mudkicker's new 360 belt was certainly better than the old 650 belt, but I think that at best the new 360 belt would have the same belt position as the 650 belt. A new 360 belt can't ride higher in the driven than a new 650 belt if it is the same length and they are both adjusted proberly. Just putting on a new belt and adjusting it (360 or 650) will give you great results.
Stakk, I believe that unless the belts come any longer or narrower that you will continue to be fine with the 650 belt without shims. I am not concerned. Mine is still kinda tight, almost too tight without shims.
Also, I firmly believe that after you get a little pulley wear that you can use the 360 belt.
Hey guys! Have you noticed that the 650 belt does not go down the driven pulley all the way? If you put a 360 belt on, it will go down further. I wish we had a more difinitive answer from mudkicker.
My only question is, will the 360 belt go down into the drive pulley at idle as far as the 650 belt does. If it doesn't (due to proper adjustment) then the 360 belt is a wash and is probably no better than using the 650 belt, unless the 650 belts start coming narrower and shorter than the ones we have seen.

650 Belt problem found?
Nyroc my deflec is a little over 22 mm, and in high, low or reverse the is some belt squeal, I think you said it took about 500 miles for your's to stop that it stops if I shift to neautral but I dont like having to shift to neatral if we just stop for a minute, what size shim do you think i should put in to take the squeal away but still have faifly tight deflection?

Stakk-- I may consult you on carbs. I am going to install Twin-Air, and the DG Snorkel soon. Already have the nyroc exhaust mod done.
I have the belt stuff pretty much dialed in, having gone thru the squealing belt business myself. The black spring DOES seem to elimate the slippage. I bought all the shims, so I won't be caught "out of stock" next belt adjustment. Use a fairly accurate fish scale to do the 13lb. deflection.
