Good to Know!

I second the Quick Strap comment. They are nice to have.

Jeff: I've done lots of cold weather riding here in the Yukon (down to -40), and I agree with kingmort. I switched to contacts when I started ATVing and they are definitely the way to go. Look into it. You will still have some goggle issues, so you'll still need some of the fixes listed here, but contacts will cut your problems in half to start with. Contacts will also let you wear any eyewere you choose, goggles or sunglasses, without worrying about fitting over the glasses.

I second or third the ProGrips, I have the light-sensitive double pane lenses. They rock!

Yukon

Do you find with contacts and sunglasses if you get dust in your eyes from following someone that can damage your eyes just curious.

I started out riding with glasses and goggles - lots of problems and never could see well. Switched to contacts and soon after went with a full face helmet - worked very well. Most of the time I could run with the visor cracked about 1/4". This would provide enough airflow to keep the visor from fogging. Had the added benefit of being much more comfortable (warmer) in cold weather. With the contacts, I had very few problems with dust. Under very dusty conditions I just pull the visor down all the way.

Dropped the contacts for LASIK surgery a month ago, so now no problems at all. I would highly recommend a full face helmet.

For those using Pro-Grip goggles, how do they fit over glasses? Their website doesn’t mention anything about goggles for over the glasses.

We use our safety glasses from work they are made by "Uvex" , they are a good universal fit, are anti-fog, cost $7.00 cdn, $3.00 for replacement lenses. Cheap , and since there's no dust in the winter they work well.

alltoys: Dust in your eyes with contacts can get a bit irratating, but I don't really think its much worse than dust in your eyes without contacts. For dusty conditions that usually means its dry, so fogging isn't such a problem and air flow isn't such an issue. In that case make sure the goggles make a good seal against your face. Ski goggles work better than safety glasses for dust. I get them with clear lenses so they're not too dark in the woods.

There is a product called "Kleer Vu" that is often sold a motorcycle shops. It is an antifog glass/plastic cleaner and it works awesome. I use it on all my expensive sunglasses, paintball masks, and goggles.
