Default p650 sputtering at high altitudes.

When I got my p650, they said that they put higher performance jets in and that it would run well at the highest levels in Utah. I rode the other day on skyline drive (those of you utah'ns know where that is) and it's about 9000 ft. The machine sputtered a little at high speeds. Would this be jetting or is the air thin enuff that I should think about drilling holes in the filter cover to take in more air? I don't ever play in water that is deep enuff to get in the air filter with or without holes. So maybe I sould just do it anyway.

Let me know what you guys think.

Trail

Some questions are have you modded your bike at all because this has an effect on elevation and jetting.

If you haven't touched your bike then try taking off the air box lid if this helps then you now your bike is jetted rich. Most of the Kawis are jetted rich from factory so by taking off the lid this will lean your bike and it will help but how much that is undetermined untill you try yourself. Also use the search function on this forum and you will find all kinds of information from how to install jets, adjusting jets different applications for different jet manufacturers everthing you wanted to now and forgot to ask. Search first I now there is tons of information on this subject give it a try.

Trailburner...

I know your problem... they told me the same thing. I had mine rejetted in Mt. Pleasant @ Ron Greene kawasaki (Since I ride alot on skyline drive as well I figured they could dial it in a lot better) It has made all the difference

Skyline is in my back yard! Rode it all summer. What jets do you have in it. You need at least 132F 138R. That is what I keep in my bike here in Richfield. If I'm going camping for the week up on Skyline then I change out to 132F, 135R. Still a little rich, but what do you expect at 10,000 feet? Delta Sports jetted my bike at 135F 138R, and I took it up there and it ran like crap, by just changing out the front it helps. Like I said if your going up for a while change them out, just takes about 15 minutes.
