I haven't played with the prairie bulbs, but I've switched 100w for 55w in small(tiny walmart style) fog lights before. And I've used 130w in larger housings. The increased light output was great, and I've yet to have any warpage to the housing. I believe the distance to the lense is more important than the over-all heat output. I think 55w is just the cheap standard way for the manufacturers to put in their lights.
