Default 650 Rear Spring help

I took the spring/shock off the quad to adjust it. The manual says back off the adjuster until the spring is free then tighten it to x depending on your application. Here's the problem. I have adjusted the nut all the way out and the spring still isn't free. What am I doing wrong?

Jeff, you aren't doing anything wrong. There is always going to be positive pressure on the spring. When I took my front struts apart, there was quite a bit of pressure on the spring, even after I took off all the spring retaining hardware. When I took my rear shock out, I backed off my preload adjuster as well, and there was still pressure on the spring. There's nothing wrong with it.

Default 650 Rear Spring help

AndyG, I had to take mine out when I put my liftkit in, so I decided to adjust it while I had it out. Made it a whole lot easier to do!!

Alltoys, I don't fly my 650 too often. Too much weight in the saddle makes for some serious abuse of my red toy! You shoulda seen the air my buddy was getting on his Grizzly!!!!!!! Just sick!!

You do not need to remove the rear shock to adjust it. If you get the top locking nut loose by using a long bar and hammer it is easy. I spray the top shock threads and also the bottom of the spring with WD-40. Then you can easily turn the spring by hand and it will turn the top adjuster nut. You can also make it easier by taking the weight off the rear spring by supporting the quad or have some one lift up on the rear.
