Water In 300 4x4 Rear Drum?
#1
Hey! I have a 300 4x4 Bayou (99) and i was out for a ride on sunday and i was going through alot of deep water. Even up to the racks. And i was wondering should check and see if there is any water in the drum, or just leave it untill the brakes need changing? Thanks

According to Greg Hall, the guy who answers questions on Tech Connection, it is best to remove the drain plugs on your rear hubs so that water can drain out. His reasoning is that water which becomes trapped within the drum assembly is more destructive than water that is allowed to drain out. In my opinion, this is probably best for those who often ride in a lot of water where it becomes difficult to impossible to keep water from entering the hubs.
However, I might argue his point for riders such as myself who prefer to avoid water. The rear seal on my Bayou 220 has always kept water out of the hub, including the one instance where I sunk it in about five feet of water.
Hope this helps.
