CV Joint Boots RUSTY!!
#1
Even though I have A-arm guards on my P650 a stick managed to perforate my left front outer CV boot. It must have happened early on a weekend ride (almost all mud and water) a while ago. By the time I found out about it some rust had formed on the surfaces of the joint as the bike had been sitting in the garage for a couple weeks with water in the boot. When replacing the boot I polished the surfaces of the ***** and races as best I could before reassembling and installing. There was no pitting. It seems to work just fine now.
Can anyone tell me what I should look for for signs of joint failure or any other long term damage?
BTW a boot kit costs $28 from the dealer and is fairly simple to do. It contains inner and outer boots, grease, and bands.
CHECK THOSE BOOTS OFTEN!
Also, I used to post a couple years ago as AngusScot but couldn't find my password after being computerless for a while. Its great to get back onto this forum!
