Default 2wd/4wd Disengage while riding

Went riding a few weeks ago in the snow and noticed that my 650 kept popping out of 4wd on occasion. I could notice because the machine would barely hit 25 mph in the snow in 2wd. I put it in 4wd and away we went moving along at 25-35 mph. Every once in a while I could hear the bike disengage back into 2wd and notice the traction was gone. It was cold and wet for the whole week prior to riding, the machine had a lot of frozen ice and snow all over it (was outside at camp for a week of hunting).

The switch wasn't frozen and it was staying down (in 4wd) when it disengaged into 2wd. I'm wondering if the actuator is going or something froze up. Anyone have any similar experiences?

Also my dad's 650 went into 4wd up there and will not disengage. It's basically stuck in 4wd.

Sounds like bad connections.
