The pipe question for the 650 has been asked many times on this and other sites. So far all that has come out of it are opinions with no real data to back them up. Where is the data? Which pipe provides the most gain, has the best fit, is the quietest, is still Forest service approved?
There was a post that I can't seem to find now from Bearman who had actually tested various pipes and had come to the conclusion that Nyroc's exhaust mod performed suprisingly well. There was also another post where it was noted that Penland was running a pipe that wasn't from one of his sponsors. Can't find that post either.

Default Aftermarket Exhaust Systems for 650

hi wolly got a little side tracked, talked to a couple of guy's that own these exhaust really like them but ain't that ehat your going to get from anybody at there makers say their brand is the best which ever one you het info from same with dealer's usally who ever is offering best mark up,owners unless they have some kind or prob. well defend their purchase be cause their money and pride is here for eveybody to see so then you can read the mag's to see what they say but half the people out there say you can't believe them to much on the line with ad money and all.so then you look at all of them and see what you want to spend or what it looks like or what feature's they have that you look forwhich comes down to personel opion in the case with the pro circuit yes it cost the most does that make it better no not on just that fact alone but in my case features such as being u.s. f. s. aporroved did count for when we ride goverment land a few times a year and when it's been very dry on private land, don't want to burn a mans timber down that was good enough to let me ride it.with easy access to remove or install that counts plus their are different tips that are easy to change for sound and tuneing for power, also for now you get limited exhausts out their with head pipe included,it's like getting a new truck will just changeing the muffler get you mad increase of power no will headers and muffler get mad increase no but it works with other mods to get you what you want and talking about power you probally talking about 10% to 15% so on stock about 3 to 7 hp is it depending on mods. sowith out head pipe your not going to see much and with it a little so them you have weight saving well on a atv going over 600lbs. a few pounds ain't going to be felt unless your the one that shucked out the $.as far as moding the stock pipe that's not a bad idea but for me i keep all stock parts stock and change whole parts so when i sell or trade some people think you have abused your atv(no why would they think that lol).also with cdi coming soon i hope you will have to have better breathing in the engine.so their are a lot of choices but only one answer the one you like and has the features you like. i don't claim to know it all this is just what i came up with for my use's. just my 2 cents hope it helps.

I believe Alltoys ran his 650 on a dyno after installing his pipe. Most manufactures give a dyno chart for their respective pipes. I personally believe proper jetting is critical to getting the most out of a pipe.

An exhaust system is only going to do so much. Probably about a 10% gain with a complete system with new head pipes and less for a slip on muffler. If you also change the jets, add a DG snorkel and a K & N or a Uni or equivalent you'll get another 10% maybe. These figures are wild a$$ guesses on my part but probably realistic. Obviously a better flowing slip on muffler will improve a stock machine (mainly sound wise and some performance improvement) but not near as well as a complete system with the other mods. How much more? I don't have the luxery of a dyno so I can't say. However, you won't see any serious racers with less than a complete system. That should tell you something. Price was not part of my decision on the Pro Circuit. I could not find anyone else offering a complete system at the time I purchased mine. I know for a fact that Big Gun is currently developing a Mike Penland Signature Series as we speak. I talked to Mike Penland as well as engineers from Big Gun about 8 months ago and they confirmed this. They were telling me it would be shipping within 30 days. I tried to wait for them to get it ready figuring if Mike was involved it would be the best one out there. After I waited over 90 days and could still not get a firm answer I decided to order the Pro Circuit and I am very pleased. The fit is perfect, the sound is awesome, and the changeable tips and the ability to run with or without a spark arrester lets you cutomize it to your preferences. As far as I know Big Gun still does not have the pipe on the market. Price should not be the only consideration no matter what you are buying. Buy what gives YOU the best value.

That's all I've got to say about that!

I have a Mike Penland series Big Gun under the X-mas tree right now! Can't wait to hear what it sounds like. Going to install it along w/snorkle, air cleaner and jet kit later this week. Gotta love Christmas!
