Default am i screwed?

well i decided to do the 10hour service myself......big mistake

well it started off good , got the engine oil drained successfully i had to take the skid plate off to get the filter off with the wrench i had...no big deal. well i compared the old filter with the new and the new filter which is a fram that the dealer gave me is longer and wider then the old one so my dad is taking it back to the dealer to see if they gave us the right one. After the engine i tackled the rear diff. it went smoothly up untill the point were i had to tighten the plug back on, so thinking that the manual knows best i got out my torque wrench and started to tighten it to 17ft-lbs.....well i started tightening it and before long i hear this snap. i feared the worse i took it off and found out i snap the top half of the plug clear off the threads. thank god i didnt strip the threads one the trans. but when i stuck my finger in there to try and un screw the threads that were left in there i felt a bunch of litttle shreds of metal hanging off the rest of the plug.

my question is do you guys think i should take it into the dealer to have them flush it out or do you think that if i just drain the oil and replace the plug ill be all right?

If he charges you a $100 to protect a 5000-6000$ dollar machine,it is worth it.

Nightryder, not dissin any of the dealers, but how is the dealer gonna flush it out any better than you can? Drain the oil out of your rear end, leave the drain plug out and pour in a litre or two of the proper oil through the filler port. That should flush out any of the chips that are in there. I would say use a magnet to clear out any of the chips, but if I'm not mistaken, the plug is aluminum so that won't work. Extreme measure---tear your rear end apart, clean it and put it back together. I would never go to this extreme, as aluminum is a lot softer than the steel gears and any war between the two is gonna be won by the gears. Just my opinion.
