That bar is a good idea, trailhog. I'm gonna mention that.

I didn't say anything about PVC cuz one guy said it didn't work well. Some of you guys got it working?

I have to apologize for leaving the compressor details off my website. I was rearranging stuff and forgot to do it.

Nyroc the only reason I didn't use a pipe cap is because it was 11pm and refused to go bed until I got that thing back together. The sizes of the bar I gave was a guess, but close. I did use a 1/2 ext to loosen the nut just the way you showed to tighten it, it worked great.

I originally made the tool from a 2" PVC pipe cap, and it worked, but it acted like it wanted to slip off to one side, maybe because I cut the notch a little wider than necessary and reduced the bearing surface too much. (I had no idea just how much force it took to compress that damn spring!) I felt much more comfortable using the galvanized cap, and it wasn't much trouble at all to cut using a reciprocating saw and a dremel tool. I told myself that I had to make the trip to buy a 27mm socket, which is probably a necessity. I like others, found no need for an air impact driver; the nut came off easily enough with a little torque.

Great Idea on the tool NYROC. Couldn't have done it otherwise without spending lotsobucks on seldom used tools!
