BLACK TRIM PLASTIC ON 650s
I HAVE TALKED TO MY KAWASAKI REP AND THE GENTLEMEN ANT KAWASAKI CANADA ABOUT THE JUNKY BLACK TRIM PLASTIC ON THE 650s, AND AM BEING TOLD THEY ARE HAVING VERRY FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. I KNOW I CANT BE THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS BROKEN PLASTIC. CAN I??? I NEED EVERYONES FEEDBACK ON THIS SUBJECT AS I WILL PRINT ALL REPLIES TO THIS THREAD AND FORWARD IT TO MY REP AND TO CKMM. WITH ANY LUCK AND ENOUGH REPLIES WE CAN PRESS KAWASAKI INTO MAKING SOME CHANGES ALL WE NEAD IS ENOUGH REPLIES TO SEEM LIKE A FORCE TO BE RECONED WITH. THIS METHOD HAS WORKED ON THE DRIVEN CLUTCH ISSUE AS WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF TESTING A REVAMPED SECONDARY (CURRENTLY HAVE 5000KM ON IT AND ALL INTERNAL MESURMENTS ARE SAME AS NEW)

Yes, it breaks easy. I have suffered 3 trim breaks already.
I like that the edge is separate from the main plastic, since you can replace just a small piece. That is smart. Give Kawi credit for that.
1. It is overly brittle in the cold. It makes contact with stuff during the summer and doesn't break, then shatters in winter while doing the same thing.
2. The rubber fasteners are a good idea, but they fall out and get lost. Some people use real bolts, then the bolts rip the holes out of the fender plastic. I use plastic bolts which hold better than the rubber things, but don't damage the main fender plastic when ripped by brushing a tree. Might be a good idea.

I bought our P650 off the floor with 3 out of 4 fenders cracked. The dealer ordered me a new parts. Im still running the cracked ones and when they are totally unusable I will replace them with my "free" ones.
I admit, if the P650 had one weakness its their black plastic.

A FEW OF THE THINGS I'VE HEARD FROM KAWASAKI REGARDING THE PROTO DRIVEN CLUTCH IS THAT IT WILL REPLACE THE EXISTING DRIVEN ON THE NEW 650s STARTING WITH THE SPRING PRODUCTION RUN AND THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE A WARRENTEID REPLACEMENT FOR THE CLUTCHES WE NOW HAVE, HOWEVER THE SPRING ON THE PROTO CLUTCH HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE OLD ONES (lost 5-6mm of length before the first belt adj) NO WORD YET IF NEW SPRINGS ARE IN THE WORKES

Fru,
I have replaced numerous pieces of black plastic on my P650. Like NYROC said, they are fine in warmer weather but they shatter when the temperature really drops. I went out when it was 2 Deg. F and I had 3 pieces break on 1 ride. Let us know what Kawasaki says.

Kawasaki's 650 Prairie Black plastic is junk, all of my mud guards are busted or cracked. And this has riped out the screws on the Red plastic causing torn/riped holes.
This cheep plastic breakage hasn't happened on the 400 Prairie or any of my Polaris quads.
And the Clutch itself needs to be addressed, Never had problems with Polaris quads since 1995.
1995 400L Polaris Over 5300 miles and 3 belts, And have original belt as spare.
2002 650 Prairie with 1422 miles and 3 belts.
Dealer couldn't adjust belt. Just put on new one for $150.00, and squeal you go.
And the '95 400 pull 4200lb skie Boat around yard, also pulls 60" 16 hp trailmower for the last 3 yrs.(weighs 400lbs. mows 5 acres)

YES. The black plastic SUCKS! Kaw. Rep. didn't hear complaints, as most people have just given up! That is my theory anyway. OR maybe he didn't WANT to hear the complaints!
Excellent machine, crappy BLACK PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I trashed EVERY panel in about 3 mo. of riding. Rode my Foreman 450-S for 2 years, HARD, never ripped any plastic on it!
