Default Dyno Jet vs. Keihin jets in the 650

Personally, I would still stick with the 142-145 combo, it should be very close. The DJ needles are a different taper and the DJ main jets are a different length as compared Keihin jets. I like the shimmed Keihin needles with the Keihin jets. That being said, someone did post that they were using DJ needles with Keihin jets and it worked good. Oxygen
I bought the carbon fibre material and machined to fit, I also milled the carbs to 6mm over changing the internal bore to a straight through design. Next I changed the needle shape on a small high speed lathe and polished the needle, jet, and internal bore of the carbs to a mirror finish. By using a high speed lathe can the small pieces be shined without distorting their shape and keep their relative size. This is a lot of work but I find it relaxing to do something constructive with my idle time. My wife calls herself a shop widow LOL It has probably gained me an extra 0.2 horsepower not much but if you add all the little stuff that I have done it all comes out to %15 better than stock. The only one I think has seen my quad run is Roscoe69 and I believe he was impressed.

Default Dyno Jet vs. Keihin jets in the 650

I am having a similar problem. I have an 03 650 and installed the air snorkel and the dynojet kit. After changing the jetting a couple of times I am now running one size larger on the main jets than recomended in the dynojet destructions. The plug reading is almost perfect but the bike is sluggish. It lurches off the start then pauses then goes. I wounder if going up one more size on the main would help or just go back to the stock setup using 142 and 145 maines. My 650 doesn't even come close to lifting the front wheels of the ground. I thought the air snorkel and jets would help with the power.

Thanks Clark

Clark389,
Not trying to go hard on you but there is so much information on the jet syndrome if I may use that term. We need to know what your modds are to determine what would work for you, along with altitude. Mostly stay with the stock set up untill you do the muffler and intake. You must let the quad breath and the 2 ways of doing this is muffler and intake. Most of all do a search on the forum and you will find information that will take days to read. Try Nyroc's web site this is a most informative site for the Kawi you will find anywhere, it is full of informaition that has been compiled by us members and put onto one site. Good hunting!!

My 03 650 is stock except for the air snorkel from DG racing. They recomended going to a dynojet kit or up two sizes on the stock main jets after installind the snorkel. I will be doing the Muffler mod soon but I would think the bike should be a little stronger than without the snorkel and it's not. It's actualy slower.

Thanks Clark

If it's slower now, it's because you're lean. All you did was add more air so now you need more gas.

I am drilling the muffler today. You said your dynojet setup didn't work very well and you went back to stock with larger maine jets. I am at about 1000 ft. in phoenix. The bike is slugish off the start and it doesn't even come close to lifting the front end off the ground. Before I go back to stock I think I will try to go two sizes larger on the dj main jets.

Clark,
DJ sucks period, a lot of money for nothing, its your coin, try to sell them after you buy them. Nobody wants them at least for the price you paid!!!!!

Default Dyno Jet vs. Keihin jets in the 650

Thanks for the help alltoys and NovaKaw650. I put my pipe back on last night and went to 134 and 138 DJ main jets needle in the 5th position. This combo worked better and not much hesitation left, but the bike doesent seem to be much faster than stock. I am going to the dunes tomorrow. I wounder if I should put the stockers back in like NovaKaw650 did. I have a 142 and a 148. I can't get a 145 untill next week. Do you think this combo would work with the washers on the stock needles. I need power to get up competition hill.

Thanks Clark
