Big Boys are one of the better ones to work with on the sales side in the area...their parts are extremely high however...and be careful with their service department. I took my quad in their after 300 miles to have the initial maintenance done and asked them to specifically address a squeal in my belt. Next time out the squeal was louder and took it back and they told me my belt and clutch were grooved and needed replacing. Asked them why it wasnt addressed with the maintenance i just had done (reminded them and pointed out on the job order sheet my specific request to have the belt checked) and they informed me they couldnt tell what was done in the maintenance and wasnt sure if the belt was checked. Now after two weeks of complaining to them and Kawi (who blew me completely off) Big Boys replaced my clutch and belt for free (GO FRANK). Even with this they are far better then layton cycle or newgate honda (one lost my quad and the other rejetted a quad four times and everytime the machine ran like crap...Careys finally did it right the first time they tried)...the shops in the Ogden area, on the service side, have pushed me to doing as much as possible myself or spend the extra 15 minutes and go to Vesco's. I am going to Vesco's today for ITP C-Series Rims and the Progressive Suspension Springs (cant find them online). For parts I have Found Cary's on Riverdale Road to be the most informative and best priced...but they deal exclusively in Yamaha's...so if you get the wife or girlfriend a Kodiak like me and Dash (or looking for a univeral part)...check Cary's out...especially if you have to get it jetted.
Examples of big boys parts prices:
- EPI Spring is $36 -- Penland (same spring) $21 ($2.50 shipping)
- Stock Jets $8.50 each (42 and 45) -- Vesco's $2.50 each
- Progressive Suspension Springs $209 -- Full Throttle Sports $159.00
And as you compare each item you will probably see they are consistently a bit higher. But they do have some sales that are pretty decent and they will work with you on a good purchasing price of a NEW quad...they are proud of their used machines and they are usually a bit high priced.
MY DEALER EVALS IN THE AREA
Big Boys: Always one of the most competitive with prices, below average parts department, average service
Newgate Honda: Hate to say it but competitive with prices, poor service and parts department
Layton Cycle: Poor sales and prices (actually you get a better deal on their quads if you work with newgate as newgate will sell layton cycle quads at better prices), poor service, and poor parts pricing.
Carys: average quad prices (better deals out there), excellent parts and service department
Full throttle: Quad prices high, parts average, never used service department as sales staff never impressed me enough to buy their quads.
Vesco's: They do so much sales they dont haggle prices and usually want close to MSRP - poor, never pay MSRP, good parts department (well stocked and knowledgeable) and good service, despite the mechanics being a smart A, they are good and reliable.
Now Vesco's will work you a deal pending the quad (bet you could get a good deal on a 400ex now), time of year, etc...so if someone worked a good deal with them dont flame me...but big boys or newgate will usually beat their price...you just have to decide are you the loyal type that wants to take your quad to the person you bought it from for service or buy it at a cheaper place and service it at a better place...if that makes sense.
Well just a little personal insight for those members in the Ogden area...by all means share your opinions or where you feel my experiences dont properly represent the dealer. This info is based off of 4 quad purchases for myself and 5 with friends and family and the service/parts requirements related to these quads...not one of the purchases were polaris so i cant provide any feedback there...now snowmobiles are a different story as we have priced out polaris snowmobiles...big boys are to badly priced their...they even beat the dealers that just sell polaris in the area...go figure...to bad they dont sell the ski-doo summit.

Bosox07 :
You need to check your private messages. I have been sending private messages to people in the ogden and northern ut area. Wanna try to get some of us together to b.s about rideing and part's etc. I must say i liked big boys alot they have won my respect and business. I talked to frank yesterday (friday) he said he was going to buy himself to new 650 prairies bolth camo and have atr's put on them cuz he said mine looked so good I would really like to get together with some of you northern ut riders and b.s so let's set up a time and place to meet.
As for vesco's i won't buy a ride from them anytime soon. They tried to shaft me on a new quad. ( First time i went in got a bid of 7,199.00 otd. Second time i went in they told me the best they could do was 7299.00 cuz they were under new ownership.) Kinda left a sour taste in my mouth!! Also i must say you hit newgate honda on nose I wouldn't have them even work on a unicycle. " Just my opinion they got there heads way up in the clouds if you get my drift. " That goes for the sales and service dept.
Are you gonna put your dirt devils on the itp c series wheels or are you getting new tires to?
I checked out a set of wheels and they sure do look nice! But i spent all my $$$ on other stuff.
Oh one last thing for everyone reading this thread: I am 110% pleased with my new ride and i would have paid full price for everything if no one wanted to wheel and deal it's one bad machine!!!!!! Can't wait tell it's broke in so i can see what it will really do
I would recommend to everyone checking out a new quad go take a 650 for a test drive it won't let you down

Yes i do need to become more familiar with the forum tricks...sorry about the private message bit...wasnt familiar with the option actually:-)
Would love to get us all together...sit around for coffee/beer/soda and discuss quads and dealer treatment...swap stories and plan rides...would work for me.
Dont get me wrong about big boys...and frank is a standup guy...he will go to bat for you...they have some of the most knowledgeable sales people and prices are competitive. Yea Vesco's lost out on all 4 of my quad deals...I walked in and told them these were the quads i was looking at and this is about the average other dealers are asking...salesman looked at me and said this is what we ask for those quads and we will sell them at that...whether you get one or not...needless to say I not'd...I do like their parts and service people however...had it in to get linkage adjusted (30 bucks but i should have done myself that easy) and they checked the work i had done on my clutch and helped with a breathier hose problem for free. So i wouldnt buy a new one from them ... but i will get the majority of my parts there. If you find a dealer you like/trust and are comfortable with them...stick with them...even if it is a little more.

Hey thanks for the replies. I just got back a little over 2 grand in taxes, so I'm out on the prawl. I looking at a Prairie, Grizzly, or a vinson. The vinson for the manual shift. It really is a hard decsion, cause I know I would like any of them. I've riden a Grizzly before and really like it, but since it is my cousins I'm thinking i want something different. Anyway thanks again.
That base price is about the same as what I could get down here, but finding a good dealer is half the battle.

Come up to Ogden way ... when i searched for mine the prairie was a consistant $500 cheaper then the Griz. You can purchase it up here and just have them maintenance it in Orem:-)
What kind of riding do you do...that and the type of deal you get will be the deciding factor between the three. You're right, all three are good quads...i am bias and will say the prairie easily fits my needs far better then the rest...but like I said above...its what your looking for and what you can get it for...good luck

I might just have to come up. Grizz OTD price here (for a solid color) would be 7400. Prairie would be 6950. and the Vinson 6400. There is a place up in Heber called ACTION KAWASAKI where i got the above price. The salesman was pretty cool he asked me if I had ever riden one, I said no, he had me hop on one and take it for a spin. The prairie would be a fun machine. He also said the owner like to under cut people, so I might be able to get it for even lower if I play my cards right.
Most of the riden I do is trail riding. That being said, if I'm out will the boys and we see a fun rocky trail we don't hesitate to go exploring. I know it is my decision, I'm just going to go to the credit union and see if i can aprove. Then it will be all down hill from there.

Darth,
Check into the kawasaki financing. No interest, not payments 'till 2004. Put your money down on the principle and ride free for almost a year. I got the financing only 'till july because they weren't offering this deal then. I love my machine. I have allready taken it for a ride on skyline drive up fairview canyon. We should all meet up at the Rockymountainatv jamboree. That would be alot of fun. Get the kawi, can't go wrong.
The best part is, your cousin will have to keep up with you now........You might have to stop and wait every now and then for him though!

Trailburner,
I might have to look into the Kawi Financing. The reason however that I would like to go through my Credit Union is my credit isn't very good. I would like to start a relationship with them so I can then get loans for other things, a truck for one.
Our first camping trip this season is going to be over Easter Weekend, so I have to have something by then. We are going down to temple mountain.
As for Skyline Drive, I only have one word COLD!!!!! It was fun though. We went camping in Manti Canyon.
