Default Belt adjustment question

With 1200 km’s (746 miles) on my Prairie, I decided to put the EPI black spring in, and check my deflection yesterday. The deflection was just beyond the specs, and it could have been brought back in by taking 1 of the .6mm shims out. Unfortunately the belt width is below 28.8mm, and there are 2 cracks in the belt. This seems ridiculous for only 1200 easy km’s (1000 on the stock tires), with absolutely no belt slipping.
I picked up a new belt for $120 cdn, and I just put it in. It went on way too easy, and the deflection is at 1.6875”. This is way more than the old belt, and I don’t have enough shims to take out to bring it into spec. I called the dealer to confirm the belt part number, and they told me that I have to bring it in. They told me that there may be parts in the front drive clutch that may need adjusting or replaced. Before I have to pay them to fix it, any ideas? Did I do something wrong?

BTW, thanks Nyroc for the excellent site.

Never mind, the deflection tightened up to .9375” after I ran it for a couple seconds.
