Default Sold the Tecate

I just waved bye bye as the tecate rolled down the driveway. It was in killer shape. Gave it away for 2350. I am going to by my kid a 250ex at action. I hated to see it go, but i have 2 rappys to feed now.

Tecate 4 is a nice old 2 stroker, heard they are hard to find parts for though. Seems like it would be a real fun dirt pit bike.....real good power/weight ratio.....dont know how well they handled, 250ex will be great ride for the kids though.

I had no problems running with piped banshees on mine. V-force reeds, fmf pipe, clamp-on K@N, wesco piston. Real cool quad. IMO hard to find anything better for under 2500 dollars

there's something to be said for a 250 two stroker that puts out 42hp stock. a few mods and they can be pretty fast machines. i'm working on a big bore 400 right now. it should put out around 70-75hp according to my port guy. they are the fasted production 250 ever made. the parts aren't as hard to get as people make them out to be. i've been able to find what i need without too much trouble. could use a rear shock for the wifes tecate though.

Hey KLF400, I wonder how hard it would be to shoehorn a Tecate-4 engine into that KFX400 chassis? I know that Suzuki builds 'em, but it would look pretty trick with the fancy green plastic and Kawi graphics...

I'm sure that it was a sad day, 14mins. My Tecate-4 isn't quite back together just yet and I'm already really attached to it.

I don't mean to turn this into a "I need parts" thread but if anybody has a spare foot shifter lever with good splines I'd be very, very interested. The dealer wants $50 for one. I had to cut mine off so that the case
could be taken apart. The previous owner thought it was a good idea to weld it on. An '86/'87 Tecate-3 shifter would work as well.

Any help would be appreciated!

i don't have the shift forks or drum but you can try ebay or www.swbike.com/classifieds. place an ad there and your prayers will be answered. i do some looking, i know of someone who has everything for tecates. i'll post his email when i find it. bandbracing@charter.net
i don't think it would be that hard to put a klf motor in a kfx frame. size wouldn't be a problem so it would probably be pretty easy. i might have the shift lever that you need, let me look
