Oil Filter, am i getting run around?
#1
Bought an oil filter and oil for my second oil change this weekend. Upon inspection, the new oil filter is shorter and the holes for oil flow inside it dont look as big. It fits on fine. Both Kawasaki parts. I call the dealer, he tells me they have discontinued the Prarie 400 filters, and now all you can get is the Prarie 360 filter as a replacement. He tells me its the same difference, although it cant be, its not the same. Anybody know if this is true? Will this hurt my engine? I allways run Kawachem 20W-50 since its not too cold here, dont want a grenade. Thanks.
...also, PJ-1 spray and wash is good stuff, just tried it.

I don't know but I don't like different oil filter sizes etc.. oil filters have different oil pressure etc. I would go to my dealer and say I want the filter that comes with the bike. There are lots of KVF400 out there so the oil filter wouldn't be discontinued.

Dealer did same thing to me on my 650 Prairie. Went to shorter filter, so I went to fram motorcycle filter for the 650 , and also use the wix filter. Get #'s from wal-mart or auto parts. Also Nyroc's web page list different filters for 650 that fit the 400 kaw.

Thanks, im going to call around some different dealers and check on the right filter, Im going on a day trip with it this weekend a long way off and dont need any problems. Yeah there are tons of 400's running around, and if I find out they swapped me just to make a sale, its on...

I called two other dealers and got the same answer, I called like I was going to order the part number for the 400, and they both said they were superceded to the 360 filter. So I guess that is that. I do like a bigger filter, dont know why, but I may switch to a K&N filter or other motorcycle equivalent since its back to the bigger size and its flow holes look to be the same size as the discontinued 400 filter. Maybe im just to picky and need to leave it alone...:-) Thanks.
