I have decided to add a little pop to my machine but I don't want to spend a wad of cake right away. What should I do first? Pipe? Carb rejetting? Air filter? Where are the best deals that you have found? What pipe would you recommend? I am fairly new to the four stroke game and to the atv game all around so your help will be much appreciated!

Hey TeamGreen,

I have a 2000 Mojave and am in the same boat as you about spending the bones! However, the mods that I did were fairly inexpensive...

I am very pleased with the Supertrapp IDS2 exhaust. I spent $240 at rockymountain ATV. It gives it a more brute and throaty sound. I also replaced the factory 12 / 43 sprockets with a 13 on the front and 41 on the rear. My final mod (for now...) was to rejet the carb from the stock 132 to a 138. Now I am just playing with the discs that supertrapp gives you to tweak the lean / rich condition of the bike. I am running 10 discs right now and it seems OK but the real test is pulling the plug and looking at it. As far as the sprockets I purchased those from sprocket specialists. Gave around $15 for the front and $38 for the rear (it is aluminum alloy.)

Many people may disagree with this next statement but here it goes...
The airfilter on my Mojave SUCKS!! I like the airbox design with the snorkel and all that good stuff BUT the filter is just single stage and a flimsy piece of foam. And that is all your paying for with the K&N is still a flimsy piece of foam. Granted the K&N you may be able to clean more times and get a longer life but for $38 bucks!?

Anyway, after I did all this I can still lift the tires off the ground going into 2nd without a bit of problem (I weigh 178 just in case anyone is wondering). The biggest difference that I have noticed is that you get more out of the gears and it takes alot more runway to max it out. It's not like it used to be where you floor the bike shift gears every 2 seconds and boom you're topped in 5th. It takes alittle more now because of the sprocket change. Stock they say these things will do 52. I'm guessing that I can get at least 60 now although I haven't gotten it clocked yet.

Hope this helps.

Deffinetly go with the Supertrapp. How much money is too much? I spent under $700 and I got a pipe, head porting, piston, black box mod, valve springs, and 2 new valves.(my valves were to worn they needed replaced) I couldn't believe the difference. Too much? Start slow and buy things every few months. Also a new set of low profile rear tires will help handling. I like my Bandits. I don't recommend changing the gearing, I ride trails and I've tried a 13T front It's ok but I prefer having the low end torque of the 12T. As far as bargains Pick up a Dirtwheels mag and shop around, don't be afraid to ask a place if they will price match, instead of ordering from a few different places. Don't by a AC swing arm skid they don't bolt right up. Feel free to ask away on this page. Good luck!

93' mojave: 11.5:1 wiseco, ported head, Supertrapp IDS, Black box mod, Uni filter, 142 jet, Bandits/.190 douglas, Renthal handlbars, PRM skid plate, custom headlight guard.

Thanks for the input Depakote and Jeffksf. I will probably go with the pipe and tires first and then go to other mods like the air filter. I have only had this thing for about 4 weeks now and I absolutely love it! I will definetly check into the Supertrapp after the glowing recomendation that you guys have given it. Thanks again!

This thread is exactly what I've been thinking about too (I also have a Y2K Mojave). I've been looking at silencers, and was wondering if the SuperTrapp IDS2 will attach to the stock header pipe. I like having the heat shield on the pipe, and all of the silencer/pipe combos don't have one. If not, does anyone know which ones will? I really like the Big Gun, but again it looks like a combo setup.

I would be willing to bet it will after installing mine with the new head pipe. It looks exactly like the stock one. Not even a bigger diameter. That is a good point just buy the silencer and the intermediate pipe. The intermediate pipe is what makes the supertrapp worth it. It will also save some money.

Hey Everybody,

The stock head pipe WILL work. I kept mine on for that very reason...the heat shield. The new head pipe had no mountings welded on it. Also when you get ready to sell it you could place the new headpipe in its place and it will look new. Just remember when you get the IDS be careful on how many discs you place in the pipe. I started with 8 on stock jetting and it was running lean. I then went to 6 and it ran fine. Now I have the carb rejetted to a 138 and now running 10 discs. You just have to play with it and keep pulling your plug. I am making mine just a tad on the rich side for anticipation of the HOT summers here in Mississippi.

Hope this all helps,

COOL! That's the answer I was hoping for. Now all I need is 240 bucks...

The K&N filter if a paper filter just like for any other atv, fits in the airbox and is MUCH, MUCH better than stock.

You might want to look at the Cobra JET pipe. Is produces more power and horsepower than a Supertrapp.(dynoed both and even TC said so) It is only $100 for the head pipe and silencer.
